Patrick Willis doesnt even make that

Matt Barrows @mattbarrows
Depends on who gets tagged. Brooks seeking $8M-a-year deal.@damo49ers: How much leverage does Brooks have considering lack of depth at OLB?

I believe Willis will be paid 17 million this year.

Ya but hes not getting paid 17 mil a year

He's getting paid 7.5 mill per year

7 years 53 mill

ah, gotcha.

8 million is too much but we need to find a way to bring Brooks back. He's a good player and we're thin at the position.

if Aldon plays full-time (if he earns the right to do so) and we keep Brooks, we're going to be unstoppable on defense. I won't be heartbroken if Brooks leaves, because I think we will do a better job of replacing him than we might have in the past, but we all know how hard it is to find OLB like him; no reason to let him go if we can avoid it.
sounds like he's demanding way too much. let him walk if he wont negotiate. A.Smith will play every down.
The plan for the forty niners is to let Brooks go at 8 million a year and turn Aldon Smith into an every down player. However they will probably use the money they save on not signing Brooks to sign a pass rush specialist say.....Robert Mathis.
There's plenty of solid 3-4 OLB prospects in this draft. If Brooks pushes the issue, make Haralson a starter, bring in a rookie pass-rusher, give him a similar role as Aldon Smith has last year...and sign a cheaper veteran free agent for depth.
If it comes down to pay Brooks or get Wallace, see ya Brooks. I wouldnt go over 4.5M average wise, and thats being generous. I think Haralson stays, we draft a OLB with our top pick.
For $8 million a year let him go. For a reasonable contract keep him. He's good but not great or irreplaceable.

And technically he isnt being paid 17M, most of it(around 13M) is pro-rated signing bonuses he already has in his bank account. He has a 1.904M base and a bit more of Workout and roster bonuses.

And Brooks can leave if he thinks he is a 8M a yr OLB. Screrw it.
not at that price

4-5 mill a year is what im thinking

Trent Baalke On if Aldon Smith will be a full time player this coming season

Asked whether he thought Aldon Smith would have a full-time role in 2012, Baalke almost laughed. "Yeah - I think that's safe to say, yes," he said of Smith, who had 14 regular-season sacks in 2011. Smith played exclusively in nickel situations this past season, and he mostly lined up at defensive end, not outside linebacker.

Smith's 2012 counterpart at outside linebacker is up in the air. Ahmad Brooks started every game this past season but is an unrestricted free agent. Parys Haralson was other starter last season but gave way to Smith on passing downs. Haralson and Smith are the only potential outside linebackers signed for next season.

Really shows you that Baalke is prepared to let Brooks walk if need be.

All comes down to money.

I could see him going into a Goldson situation though...not getting what he wants in the market and coming back for a 1 year contract.

I hope we keep him, but don't kill the bank to do it.

If we lose him, what is he worth? Maybe a 3rd?

Baalke and crew offered Brooks an extension during the regular season and he declined. I'm guessing the same offer will be on the table on March15 and Brooks will either beat it on the open market and move-on or come crawling back to take the current offer . . . assuming Baalke hasn't moved on, signed somebody else and withdraws the offer.
