I believe this kid has what it takes to win the starting job in 2012. This QB has a rocket arm, he is very accurate on the run and he is fast when he takes off and has to run. Alex did a good job this year. One game he shined in but really that's it, one game. With a full season of watching, a complete off season to prepare it will be Kap. The Niners should be careful with how much they pay Alex or for how long, Kap will start in 2012.

i doubt it
like you said with a full offseason
alex did good down the strech of the season harbaugh knows we dont have WR when asked what he thought of them he said "thats something we will discuss internally"
like you said alex did a good job despite us leading league in drops and having 2nd or 3rd rate WR and the fact we didnt have an offseason and learning the playbook on the fly (VD said he didnt have it mastered till week 10)
next year we will be a top 10 offense with valex at qb assuming we adress the WR position

I watched him play at UNR, he really has a lot of potential. With Harbaugh teaching him some technique and the speed of the NFL, it is scary to think what this team will look like next year. A WR in free agency or the draft, maybe a corner and we are set!!

Alex is an NFL caliber QB. He is not elite. He was very careful not to give the ball away. He made some good passes but how many passes were at a guys feet. Elite passers put the ball where only their guy can get it. Alex is ok, Kap will be better. Refer to this thread next year when Kap is starter.

btw there is a reason harbaugh wants smith back (saying alex is the qb of future of niners , saying he is a pro bowl level qb) and such he wants alex back kand he did exactly whats asked of him
harbaugh knows he didnt have much to work with with the offseason and all if you didnt see the article they (the players ) said that they couldnt incorporate a lot of what was in playbook

I don't think he will start, but I'm not opposed to the idea. We know Alex is average at best. We need to see what Kap can do.
But we have to see improvement because our window is small and the defense might not be this good 3-4 years from now.

All quarterbacks get their shot. Let's see what CK has when it's his turn.

Nobody's denying that
but, is it that hard to think
If Harbaugh did this for Alex, why cant he do it for Kaepernick?
Remember Kaepernick comes from a gimmick offense from Reno and has to learn the WCO in his first year. Alex has spent 6 years in the league, so he has had some understanding of qb'ing at a professional level.

im sorry but what makes you think hes average at best?
first year with a real coach and even without an offseason he arguwably had a top 10 year despite a horrible WR corps
with a full offseason and a good WR corps whs to say he can tpush to top 10 ? or maybe even top 5
i mea

What do you base this assessment on? There are plenty of qb's who look good in college but can't make the jump and he was recognised as something of a project.
Smith starts in 2012 and the job thereafter is his to lose, imv.

Harbaugh NEVER called Alex Smith the Niners QB of the future. He does want him back. Alex is good but we didn't draft Kap so Alex could be the QB of the future. Kap was drafted to fill that spot.

Kaepernick in 2012 is just wishful thinking by people not happy with alex. He was considered a project QB before the draft. It takes more than just raw talent to be a nfl QB. He'll get his chance in TC and preseason to show how much he's progressed. I doubt he'll be ready to beat out alex in 7 months. We will see.....

who is playing on a one-year contract this season, was the 49ers' long-term answer at quarterback. His answer: "I do."
