How many more years is Gore our starter?

How many more years is Gore our starter?

this was his second most rushing yards, and he shared the load more than ever before, i think theres more left in the tank than ppl think, just not 300 carry seasons

Ditto, with another year in this offense its only gonna get better for him. His whole career he was the ONLY true go to guy on this team since he got here. FINALLY, defenses will have to defend the whole field not just Gore. Next year, I can see him reaching 1400 yards on the ground!!!

FRANK THE TANK!!!!
One more then we draft a RB that will split time with Hunter

i say we gotta keep gore for atleast 3-4 more years. he hasn't even gotten the second wind of his career. if we got rid of him he will have several all pro years elsewhere. gore is a beast and has carried this team on his back his entire career.

Dixon is in the dog house with this coaching group. He will probably be replaced by a draft pick soon.

I don't see that happening and I don't recall the coaching staff saying hes in the dog house either. To be frank (no pun intended) the reason he is third on the depth chart (this is my opinion) is that Hunter is just a better change of pace running back, where as Dixon is some what of the same kind of RB that Gore is, of course Dixon is a lot less polished. I think the 49ers will bring in someone new at RB next year and Dixon might see some FB play in TC and preseason.

It was reported during the bye week that the coaching staff didn't like his work ethic and maturity. He seemed to get to wild after making special teams tackles and they told him he needed to cool it. And he admitted he could improve in that area.
Im having a little trouble finding that on the web. Link?

Dixon said head coach Jim Harbaugh, running backs coach Tom Rathman and special-teams coordinator Brad Seely have each challenged him to improve every aspect of his game.

"Coaches are just trying for me to be perfect," Dixon said. "That's the way I see it. They want me to be perfect, and we all know how hard that is to achieve. But they feel like I can do it, and I feel like I can do it."

"They want me to be just that much more crisp. I'm down for it. I've accepted it (the challenge), and I'm ready to go."

"He (Harbaugh) challenged me to get my attitude back in check, too. I got to work on getting my attitude back into shape and being that much more polished on my plays." While Harbaugh and the coaches have asked Dixon to turn up his level of execution, the head coach has requested that he tone down his action on special teams. Dixon said Harbaugh has told him to stop talking to the opponent's sideline after plays.

"It's what he wants me to do," Dixon said. "It's the Harbaugh way. I got to learn to do things the Harbaugh way, and then maybe I'll see the field some more.

"I'm ready. I can't wait to get the opportunity. I feel like I can bring another dimension to the offense. I just got to wait for my opportunity. . . . It kind of messes with my attitude sometimes, but I know coach wants me to get (it) right, get special teams right, be perfect on that."

Thanx for taking the time to find the link I do remember reading that.

I don't know that I took that as the coaching staff put him in the dog house though, It just seemed to me they were trying to challenge him and make him a better all around player and to be fair we have seen him more since then.

well I read it as Dixon got a kick in the pants and if he then maxes out and the coaches know he is aware they need to see improvement and he doesn't meet the coaches expectations after a while of trying to step up, then he will be shipped out and replaced

I think we need to draft a back this year, you don't set "All time" records at the beginning of your career! I would picture Frank being used much like he has been the last 3-4 games, no more "Bell Cow". Just anther back in the rotation.

I doubt we use a high pick on a RB. Depending on free agency, we will need a WR and likely OLB, also a RG, it may be hard to get a Guard, Im iffy on throwing a lot of money at an OG.
Look at the team JH built in Stanford, lots of running back by committee, not a lot at wide receiver. That said I agree with you I don't think we spend a 1st or 2nd on a RB, but it would not shock me if JH does. My personal opinion is we don't have a single top tier WR on this team. I feel good about Kilgore next season and don't see a high pick at guard. As for our team's needs in order I say, WR, DB, RB, DL, RG.

I said 2 years... I didnt quite see the "step" that he lost this year as a lot of people have been saying... Hes had a few breakaway runs for tons of yards but those long runs have not been td's (no 30+ yard runs + TD). Hes been running safe taking good care of the ball. You look at the stats and despite his "injury" he has carried the ball 280+ times... second most in his career.

I seem to remember Frank fumbling around the goal line a lot... and I can't think of a single time he has done that this year. Hes got two fumbles lost this year and I cannot think of a situation where it was game changing... In the past it would be a goal line fumble, we would be down and it would completely deflate the offense.

Bottom line is he has never had breakway speed. His strength has been hitting the hole, getting to the secondary and punishing people. I believe he is going to have a better 2012 than 2011 and will have a solid 2013, both years sharing the load with hunter.

Just because he did this at Stanford doesn't necessarily mean he will do this in SF. I think that offense was created because he may not have had the opportunity to get the type receiving talent that can be available in the NFL. This can be a very versatile offense. I'd like to see more of the passing game develop and that won't happen IMHO until we get some real reliable receivers.
If he makes it through next season healthy I will be surprised. Hes clearly taking a pounding and its honestly painful to watch. I like hunter alot but no way can he take that kind of punishment for a full season either. But to answer your question I think the answer is 1 and his replacement will be drafted a few months from now... Might even go back to the U for Lamar Miller
When running backs reach Frank's age it becomes game to game. The position has become disposable due to the short life span. When was the last time a running back was picked in the top ten. Will there ever be an elephant back again?

Sure he had 5 straight hundred yard rushing 100 games this season, but I put a lot of that production on the offensive line and scheme. It worked really well in the middle of the season, because our jumbo packages was something teams had never seen. Then, after enough film was out, teams caught on and his running production dropped off. I'm not saying Gore is washed up, but he is no longer an elite running back. All you have to do is look at this YPC this year vs. Hunter. Gore has 4.3 ypc, while Hunter averaged 4.2.

The truth is, all things must come to an end. 8 years as a featured back in the NFL is a very long time. The time to move is now, not 2 years from now when he actually becomes a liability. If we can cut/trade Joe, Jerry and Lott, we certainly can move on from Gore (as painful as it may be).

lol u just want him to go to the raiders! lol. jk. i agree.

I have my doubts about him but we have much bigger, more immediate problems at WR and OL, so those should take precedence and then hopefully we can get a steal at RB in the later rounds or sign a better #3 in FA.

Dixon is in the dog house with this coaching group. He will probably be replaced by a draft pick soon.

Depending on how good he does this training camp 2012 will determine if he gets replaced. Personally I dont see enough upside to make an impact. I think we should draft another running back.
