The following 49ers players were selected as alternates for the NFC Pro Bowl squad: linebacker NaVorro Bowman, linebacker Ahmad Brooks, special teamer Blake Costanzo, tight end Vernon Davis, return specialist Ted Ginn Jr., center Jonathan Goodwin, guard Mike Iupati, defensive tackle Ray McDonald, fullback Bruce Miller and safety Donte Whitner.

They aren't competing against each other. The Saints by themselves sent two guards. Iupati is an alternate tho.

lmao I feel bad for Tarrell Brown, Soap, and Haralson. They're like the only starters on our defense that didn't get alternate or made the team.
