I really think Goldson's picks have been a result of lucky errant throws rather than actually being great in coverage. Rogers undercuts routes and gets his INTs in coverage. Goldson is just kind of in the right place at the right time when a really bad throw is made. Even his Big Ben pick was off of an errant pass - granted he did alright to shadow the TE, but if Ben is healthy, that's a coverage breakdown on the reception.

Agreed on Goldson, slightly above average safety, but takes poor angles and can only make plays infront of him. Would be nice to have him around at a decent rate along with a rookie to groom, but he wants his contract. It'll be interesting to see how Baalke & Co. play this in the offseason.

I agree, I can't think of any picks that are a result of him making a play on the ball. His tackling is a liability and he takes bad angles. I hope he stays and improves but he definitely doesn't deserve a huge contract.

Well...yes and no. You get "lucky" on picks if you are always in the vicinity. He always is...he just isn't always there to make the play on a well thown pass. He is good at always being around the ball. Thats why he gets those picks and recovers fumbles. Its also why he makes CRUSHING hits. He's not in position to make a play on the ball, so he makes a play on the receiver.
Again, I'm not saying he's a BAD player. He's better than any of the other guys playing FS on the roster. I'm just not his biggest fan.

Braylon sucks. Became a detriment to the team with his play in the Seattle game.

Nice post. I get your point on Goldson. He's one of those players who you wish you had a better guy, HOWEVER, buyer beware on letting him go or going with a new model. I'm all for better play but he's young and will get better. I think we need to take the approach of bringing in guys to try and TAKE his job.
I hope Walker can go in the playoffs. I have a feeling we were planning to use a bunch of the offense we have left dormant for a while involving him.

I agree on your second point. These past few weeks have been about getting the passing game going. Once the playoffs role around tho, I think this team is going to look alot more like the team that we saw just before midseason.

Agree with just about everything there. I dunno if we keep Grant next season, but it'd be nice to have a guy like him who can rest either Willis or Bowman for a few plays here and there if our defense is ever out on the field too long. He doesn't have Willis' talent, but he's a baller...that's all you can ask for.

You forgot to mention that Alex Smith had an awesome game throwing the ball and moving around back there.
