Why are we so bad in the Red Zone??

1st spread the WRs from sideline to sideline. Have TE, alex in shotgun: then, snap it and sling it, or as NCommand says, "hot read". Basically with the mindset of hiking the ball and slinging it the moment alex can get it out of his hands he has 2 WRs running slants, 1 WR running slant , and TE running slant. Gore drifts right, and once ball is snapped, alex slings it...NOTE: ALL receivers need to be looking for ball the moment they leave LOS. That leaves 5 receivers, and alex has to get it to the one who he sees open . It should be BANG/BANG and gone. Brady uses it, Brees does, and so did Montana. No reason it won't work here. But, the OC has to call the dam play first for it to work. That and receivers not looking for ball have been biggest problems. That way alex gets 3 tries. If we are on the 3 yd line, first down, then bring in jumbo pack, and run behind them and Miller, or use that set to left and roll right with Lt sided WRs, breaking off quick slants OVER THE GOAL LINE.

Honestly, Coach Harbaugh should be calling all the O plays, and especially down in RZ. He isn't but he should be. He is creative, he is on the field where the guy calling the plays should be, and plays should be in within 5 seconds after the end of preceding play.

Good idea Pasodoc, I think that may be the only way to back the D off the LOS. And with four or five receivers all looking for the ball right away there won't be those awkward moments of hitting the receiver in the side or helmet when they aren't looking. Larry Bird use to do that in B-Ball so Smith should start doing that in games. Bounce the ball (hard) off the guys helmet a few times and he may turn and look after this.

Edit: Doing this early in the game should loosen up the middle for longer routes...seam for VD?

then why were we so good in the red zoe before

the players who are actually involved in the team cite teh source of the reason is not lineing up on time

because of the extreme personnel shifts we dont line up on the LOS fast enough to make audibles

and also the problem is we run the ball 60% of the time in the red zone which is by far the msot of any teams

so ya ur right it is alex smith: and the fact we arent using him enough

When were we good in the redzone, last season? Yes I definetly agree with most of everything you said. I also think we run the ball to damn much especially at the goal line. When we should do a bootleg. The bootleg works 98% of the time. My knock on Alex is he holds on to the ball to long and is afraid to do what every other QB in the league does to survive. Throw the ball in tight spots

that i can agree with

but i cant say he holds ont he ball for too long

in the red zone ive seen brady and rodgers have 5 to 8 seonds waiting for a reciever to get open i wish alex had that time

i agree alex doesnt throw the ball in tight spots mainly cause he is afraid but we dont have a legit RZ target outside VD

crabs does not play in the RZ for some reason ( we need to put him in) i remember against the bengals he put in a tight spot after extendint the play did it again to walker in the detriot game and he has done it numerous times in the past to VD

so i dont think he cant do it its jjust a matter of getting the right personnel on the field (in other words out crabtree int he redzone)
Glad to see the team is working on red zone offense. Now, if the O-ine can just work on pass protecting we'll be good.
As much as I think smith has gone a long way with harbaugh I do believe it's AS's lack of vision in the red zone. I believe he just doesn't have the vision and it's fools gold To believe he will finally develop this intangible

the last 2 years 50% of our RZ drives resulted in TDs (in fact 2009 was 60%)

that isnt the problem
IMHO it all starts with the O line. Our O-line needs to step it up and give alex at least an extra .5 sec. Same reason why we don't get in when we run it 3 times in row in the goal line.
It may help a great deal if, during practice, the OLine sits on the sidelines and just lets the 9er DLine rush unabated. Then Smith could have a real game experience during the week. Or they could have the line play on their knees...no, the DLinemen would trip and it would slow them down...very ungamelike.

The WRs could all wear blindfolds so they could simulate drops more easily.

Seriously, Smith was very good in the red zone last year and before so it is likely a matter of not being comfortable in the Harbaugh offense as run in the zone. The run plays have taken away some possibilties as well. It could also be due to the Red Zone plays not being fully implemented early enough. Also, Morgan was hurt after the abbreviated TC and he was likely a red zone target. Many variables to choose from. Edwards playing poorly also contributes.

If you were an opponent who would you take away in the red zone? VD? And then who? Williams?

I hope Alex Smith is taking notes from Tony Romo on how to manipulate the defense in the red zone.

we dont have a red zone target

and they have been in the same system for what 4 years now

and as roman said the last thing that clicks when installing a new offense is RZ effiency

in other words our RZ woes are the effect of the lockout

patience it will ahppen its only a matter of time
