Packers have been rolling since the SB. But where they're amazing in the passing game they're mediocre at best everywhere else. The way I see it, we're good to great everywhere else. If we can get a couple turnovers/get to rogers, I think we win 7 out of 10 times.

I'm curious of Trent Dilfer's prediction is right (so far as an analyst, he's been pretty good) That they'll struggle later in the season with cold weather and defenses clicking, and being "the team to beat."

1990s compression: We were the high offense with a mediocre D. It's a bit of a turn of table. Cold weather doesn't help the Packers of the 'teen nor the Niners of the '90s. I'D LOVE to play a mud bowl at the stink against the packers in this decade;)

I think the 49ers could beat them, but they would have to play a nickel defense (if not dime, but Navarro would come out of the game in dime) the entire game, and probably allow them to have a 100 yard rusher. Let them slowly march down the field with a mediocre rushing attack, and then stiffen in the red zone. Packers would still score 20+, but it would slow the game down, and allow our special teams to make a difference. And I think our offense would also be able to score 20+ easily against the Packers D, and it would be a close game to the end, with turnovers (which we excel at) making the difference in the game.

I would have to say that we would lose; however, the game will be put on Smith's shoulders. He will be the reason if we lose the game or become a Super Bowl Quarterback. They will run the ball, they will play good defense and special team, but if Alex has the best game of his life, (kinda like houston in '09 in the 2nd half) then it would be competitive.

I'm arguing with my dad about this over facebook. He's a packers fan.

I'm not arguing that we would win though, simply that we shouldn't be expected to lose.

Looking at the schedule though, the Packers have only played one good defense this year, the bears, who are not as good as the 49ers.

Forty Niner fans know our team can play with anyone. The Packers are riding high, but have they peaked? Their defense has been shredded at times. If we can run the ball, and we've run it against everybody, we limit his touches and force mistakes. Coach Harbaugh is just beginning to open his play-book.

Fascinating comment. Exploiting the right weaknesses could be the key, much like what the Giants managed against the Patriots in their Super Bowl match-up. Also, in 80's the 49ers ran what was a cutting edge offense(WCO) with some of the greatest personnel ever assembled but the Giants usually found ways of remaining competitive and often upsetting those 49ers by utilizing their great defense and managing games with high, mistake free efficiency. The Packers' potential over-reliance on the passing game, possibly disguising their weakness with the running game, could be their Achilles heal. A balanced attack is generally ideal and it appears that there may be areas in which the 49ers could find advantages. What remains to be seen though is whether this less experienced 49er defense can remain composed and maintain their elite performance in the postseason. Providing such necessary focus will likely be the most important challenge for the coaching staff.

As things stand now, the Pack would be favored and for good reasons.

But we do not ply them now; we would not play them until the playoffs and that is a long way off.

I will wait and see what happens between now and the playoffs.
