Well it would appear that we'd have to ride out with Kaep because the main FA attraction David Garrard suffered a herniated disk

Don't you mean ad nauseum???
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ad_nauseam
Ad nauseam is a Latin term used to describe an argument which has been continuing "to [the point of] nausea".[1] For example, the sentence, "This topic has been discussed ad nauseam", signifies that the topic in question has been discussed extensively, and that those involved in the discussion have grown tired of it.

I'm sorry, but this thread is like preparing for a terminal illness that you don't know if and when it's going to arrive. Everyone here has thought about this, but tries not to DWELL on it. If it happens, it happens and we'll deal with it. They are not going to get some FA qb IMO, and we can only hope Kaep or the 'second coming of Joe Montana' Tolzien can step up if called upon. That's pretty much it, any further discussion is overanalyzing, since what people think they know about Kaep or Tolzien is pure speculation, other than meaningless preseason games.
The o-line does their job and we should be fine.
I'll be honest and say after a 5-1 start this thread was inevitable.

Eventually isn't now. And don't claim to know what I've figured out and what I haven't, or what Harbaugh knows or doesn't know. I was not taking any shots, the only one doing that was you. I don't think this thread was intended to be anti-Smith thread, but congratulations on your failed attempt to turn it into one.

For the record, it WAS NOT anything close to being an attempted anti-Smith thread. I'm pro-Smith and have backed him from Day 1 on the team, but really I'm pro-49ers. Maybe I shouldn't have given it the title I did. Please, just read my first post to start off the thread - it's a legit question, especially with what we just saw across the bay with the Raiders yesterday. Their fans were thinking about how much they're improving under HC Jackson and that they could be playoff bound if they continued winning...then, QB Campbell gets taken to the ground with a tough hit and he's most likely done for the year. Just like that. I only use this example because the Raiders are here (unfortunately) and thus they also get local coverage and I've been hearing about it all day on 95.7, KNBR, etc.

Ban me? Have you read any/all of the posts behind this thread (besides just the title)? This thread poses a serious question as our team gets better and better. Yet if I've broken some Niner Talk rule, the Mods can go ahead and lock this. Again, not trying to create any 'negative vibes', which is what some people seem to be getting from just reading the title.
Because this thread is a jinx and it is negative. We know we go with Kaepernick. Why discuss this issue after a big victory???

Why do people have to be negative, or think of a bad situation?
It's like some fans want the 9ers to do bad in the back of their mind, so they go back and laugh at those who were optimistict.

If your comment here is directed towards me, you're directing it towards the wrong fan. I've never since being a die-hard 49ers fan from the mid-70s to now ever wanted the 49ers to do bad or have ever said anything bad about this organization from the top down (including Jed York, where I've read some real doozy comments on this board about him). Can you say the same thing? I've seen a couple of 2-14 49er seasons and some real talent-challenged QBs running things...you have to stick with your team through thick and thin, though.
Read the posts I put up under this thread...I'm thinking of the bigger picture for THIS year and the Niners covering their bases on the most important position on the field, QB. I'm not trying to "think of a bad situation". It's a legitimate question...we have a real shot THIS year with the direction we're going, the improvements we're making each week under the new offensive and defensive systems in place. Smith already has had a concussion this year. I hope that's the worst of it going forward, believe me.

Not directed to you at all, I'm saying in general, I read allot of fans write stuff like that, I just don't see the reason why we gotta think for the worst when were in a good situation presently!
My bad if you felt it was directed to you!
Backup QB plans, I'm sure Harbaugh will groom CK to be a the QB for this team once Alex isn't around!
