Like Vernon told Harbaugh when they met this week...even if he's being doubled, then he wants to see the ball get to whoever's got single coverage, and a good part of the time that should be Delanie, among others. Both he and Vernon should have big years...they both have decent hands, are outstanding runners and have the desire to be great.

I would do the same thing with Delainie that I would do with Vernon, and that is put him at WR. Then concentrate on 1 step passes, meaning Delainie has to be looking for ball the moment he leaves the LOS. Also he is good at RAC. Put Vernon and Delainie at WRs with Morgan, throw nothing but dinks and dunks, and watch those 8 box defenses return to 3-4 or 4-3. Either guy, especially Delainie would be tough to defend if we went 3 wide including morgan, and just throw snap it and sling it passes, all slants. Then you would see an OL that looked like it was a good passblocking team...because they wouldn't have to hold anybody out longer than a second, maybe 2. Also, once we would get Defenses to quit puting 8,9, or at times 10 guys on LOS, and magically our running game would open up and frank would look like frank again. Frank has not lost a step. He can't run against 3 unblocked guys. Nobody can.
If JH were to try nothing but quick hitters for 2 qtrs, the OL would look lots better, and occasionally we would get someone open on a deep route. But starting off with a full slate of quick slants to vernon , delainie , and morgan with 1 steppers would have a high probability of working. Throwing to vernon just on deep routes twice a game is goofy. Get him at WR, same for Delainie and kill the opposition with Joe M's dinks and dunks. You know what is interesting? We could do it now, because our OL wouldn't have to hold anybody out. Snap it and sling it...but to vernon and delainie/ morgan.

The niners know what they have with Walker but he is not a complete player as a TE so they can't play him as one. They can use his strengths though as a receiver. When he goes in motion there can be some confusion for the D as it could be a run or pass. Roman and Harbaugh will find the best way to use him as the year progresses. The touchdown last week was really nice--good catch of a ball thrown slightly behind him.

not as good of a blocker as VD, but makes tougher catches than VD. I love Davis, but he doesn't seem to sacrifice his body the way most TEs do. He plays very conservative and only runs straight lines. When he is getting tackled, he is almost always bracing for impact and goes down lightly. Not what you would imagine from a FREAK of an athlete. I would prefer to have the ball in Walker's hands than Vernon Davis, unless it is a seam route or there is no defenders in the proximity.

He clocked a 4.49 forty in college. He has the speed, size, and quickness to be placed anywhere in the formation and be assigned any route on the field. There's a reason why we have kept him given the fact that we already have Vernon who is our "best" receiver. Most teams keep a pass catching TE and one blocking TE. Delanie would be a fine starter on any other team. He would be a faster version of a Chris Cooley.

He would not start for most teams, but he is a very good role player. Good on ST.

Don't doubt that. 6 sacks and a concussion. I would check down too before it's another 3 sacks and a fumble lost.

No one minded when Hill or other SF quarterbacks checked the ball down. Our boys are not getting any YAC.

Not true. Every 49ers fan knows that Hill was overall very loved in his years for SF. Fans knew that he had a weaker than ideal arm, but he was gutsy, and could manage a game well enough in spot relief. Checked down often and people didn't mind.

Hill has always done as much as he could with his limited physical skills,

Yes, agree.... and no one complained about the check-downs as long as we won games. It was labeled as efficiently taking what the defense gives you.
( and notice, I said "we" when speaking of winning games )

Smart move for a TE on a team that works hard to keep things close to the vest to use the media to throw his QB under the bus.
I'm having a hard time believing that Walker said this. However, I do believe that you heard it.
