The answer is that Cam may be new to the system, but the rest of the team has been there for awhile. They have some pretty good receivers in Smith, Laffel, Shockey and Greg Olson. Just remember what Montana said in that interview and try to be patient. Once the line gets used to zone blocking and we get healthy, we will see better results and the coaches will call better games.
Also would like to remind you that 400 yards resulted in back to back losses with the 2nd game full of stupid plays that really cost them the game. Cam is the real deal, but he isn't winning games, and that is what the object of the game is, not to pile up yards unless it is within the game plan.
In case you forgot, Carolina changed OCs as well just like us and we also have the majority of last years offense returning. in terms of stats their run game has been almost as bad as ours has been so far. The only reason Cam is putting up those numbers is because of his athleticism and the lack of game film on him. Alex has been in the league for 6 seasons and it's not hard to go back and study his decision making and break down his play style when hes been around for so long. The entirety of the 49ers and Panthers rosters are new to their respective systems, dont make comparisons like this again please.
It's obvious that Harbaugh is holding the reins, just read VD's comments about the gameplan again, He flat out said those 2 passes were all he was meant to get and his main assignment for the day was blocking against Demarcus Ware. It doesn't matter if Harbaugh leans on the run if we can't get the right gaps for him to get more then 2.5 YPA.
What you really have to wonder is why did JH flip-flop on his decision making from last week to this week?!? Remember how we kicked a field goal and drew a penalty and JH decided to take the points off the board and do the runs up the gut??? It took 2 minutes off the clock and we ended up with another field goal....fast forward to yesterday and we are in the same exact situation, field goal that draws a penalty but yet JH decided to keep the points this time. Say in theory JH calls for 3 more runs up the gut and we take 2 minutes off the clock and the game plays out roughly the same way the Cowboys wouldn't have had the time to kick that field goal, it's hypothetical but you have to wonder what would've been. So why the change in tactics??? That's what confuses me more then anything.
To address Alex's play, he opened it up compared to last week, a 50 yard increase and looked like the offense was finally going to push the ball a bit. But it could have been a lot more promising if the play calling wasn't changed when Braylon got hurt and JH yanked on the reins again and put everything back in the bag so to speak. I'm thoroughly amazed that Alex only had one pick based on the pressure he was taking all day and he is honestly the sole reason we didn't get blown out(but what's the difference when you let go of a 10point lead and lose in OT), through a little mix of skill and luck. Holding on to the ball(luck/skill) during that attempted strip was incredible and then their was that lucky ass bounce(luck) on the bad snap that he grabbed on a one hop like a short stop(skill) and still completed the pass.
Also one of the bay area papers brought up a great point about the final minute of regulation? Why not use our time outs and force the cowboys to kick the field goal with 45 seconds left on the clock???? I can't recall if the kick was on an early down or actually on fourth but correct me if I'm wrong that if it was a first down attempt and he missed 3 times in a row and we used all 3 timeouts and he makes the 4th attempt we would still be left with a possible kickoff return from Ginn and 25-30 seconds of clock to get into position for our own field goal or attempt the end zone. Definitely a questionable decision and we didn't even ice him(even though I don't really believe icing actually works.)
So in all honesty the fans should be wondering when Harbaugh is going to take the training wheels off and let Alex play like JH has been saying he will and secondly when will JH find this identity not only for the offense and defense but for his coaching tactics.
