V. Davis played like a p***y yesterday, going out of bounds rather than picking up extra yards, sliding after the catch rather than bulling through a defender, and looking scared to stretch out to catch the ball because he sees the defender in his peripheral vision. I am one of his biggest supporter on here even when everyone hated on him a couple of years ago before he started breaking out and making plays. However, I'm really starting to doubt him especially after yesterdays performance. He really needs to step it up.
This thread is a prime example of many people seeing what they want to see.

Agreed. I thought I was the only one that noticed this. He was playing like he's nursing an injury. He looked timid and afraid of any kind of contact. I was so pumped when he got the ball and ready for him to smash people, but he didn't. He really didn't look like himself out there. I wonder if that family issue he had to deal with during preseason is bothering him?
I missed this play, but I know VD is willing to take punishment. If you watch the 49ers, you know this, MAN!

He ran a little "careful" after the catch a couple of times.

Didn't know about his family issues or whether he was injured or not, but if its a family issue he needs to learn to block all that out and just do his job.

I agree. Though, TBH, I'm not sure VD has ever been a gifted RAC guy. I recall alot of times him catching the ball in the flat, making a "shifty" side-to-side move, which actually jukes noone, and getting tackled.

Discalimer: This is not VD hate. I think he's great. But there are TE's in the league who are far better runners with the ball in their hands than VD. Just sayin'.
Ya, he pussed out yesterday.
It looked to me like Vernon slowed down, and then got hooked by the shoulder pads as well. If I was going to give Vernon a pass on a play this is the occasion. Tight ends aren't asked to track down deep balls very often.

Vernon Davis looks like a dang LB/Bodybuilder. He looks good blocking and receiving in line. But when he has to run a route and make a move he looks really slow.
It's like the Twilight Zone in here... Vernon Davis is a great TE. He is probably the best overall TE in the league, or top 3 at least. Some of you people need to look at the big picture. No TE is perfect, but on that play Vernon seemed to get interfered with, and once he saw that he couldn't catch the pass, he let up a little bit. It wasn't a big deal, and he has made plenty of tough catches (and took plenty of big hits) in the past. We are talking about VERNON DAVIS here! I can't believe some people are starting to doubt him... so idiotic.
Started at tight end and played every snap of the game. Alertly adjusted to back-shoulder throw for 19-yard gain against coverage of Aaron Curry. . . . On deep ball, Marcus Trufant held his arm which might have been the reason he didn't reach out to haul in the pass. No pass-interference penalty was called on the play. Davis was the 49ers' leading receiver with five catches for 47 yards.

Still waiting to see this YAC phenom he was dubbed to be! Too fast for ............ too strong for ............

Decent player but still not worth the hype. Though the hype has cooled down to a simmer over the years I must say.

How about Michael Huff?

VD had 20 TD's in 2 years and almost 1,000 yards in each season. Also the best blocker at TE in the league. No doubt the fastest of all TE's in the league. I can't believe anybody would still be doing this. He's not crazy. Just Krizay...
