Yes he did. Had he made more of an effort to try for the ball, probably could have gotten a PI or defensive holding call out of it.

He should run into the safety next time, the ref would call a defenseless hit on a receiver like they did with the total BS William's call.

Up until that call the Seahawk offense had nothing going.

This right here is one of the reasons I don't think he'll be successful in the WCO...... His game is all power and speed.. The WCO needs a guy like Brent Jones or today's Jason Whitten, those guys always found/find the open spot on the defense....

So you're saying we need a white guy at TE?

Great tight ends in this league work hard to make their QB's life easy.....by working hard to get open and presenting themselves as nice large target for the QB. Davis is probably one of the most physically talented, but you never see him play this type of game. Instead it's Alex that has to work hard to get him easy touches and get him more involved in the game.

In the long run, I think we'd be better off with a Jason Witten or a Dallas Clark type tight end....no world class speed or athleticism, but guys who know how to get open and catch passes.

In the specific play being talked about here....if Davis had just run a little bit harder the pass would have dropped right in his breadbasket....but he was bracketed by his man and the safety, so he'd have had to have go up and fight for the ball. It would been the type of play he was drafted to make for us. So it's not an entirely unreasonable expectation for us to think he could have made the catch there.

But I think Vernon Davis' accomplishments kind of speak for themselves.

Vernon wants to be a top TE in the NFL but will never reach that level with an effort like that. The ball was overthrown inside, Vernon was running outside. The camera angle, and the announcers made it seem like it was closer than it actually was. Not to mention he was getting yanked by the jersey from behind.

Yeah, it was difficult to tell, but from what I could see, It looked like the pass would have hit him in stride. But, the DB was hanging on for dear life. Given a little more effort, I bet that flag would have hit turf.

Good grief. You all know that Dallas Clark, Jason Witten, and Vernon Davis all have almost identical stats in their last full season? (Note, compare Clark's 2009, since he was injured last year)

I disagree, unheeded, the ball was thrown where only Davis could make a play on it. Davis was held and he let up. Gotta at least try.

He led the team in receiving. He made 2 GREAT plays (in particular that back shoulder catch) for his QB and all you guys can think of is the one that got away? You may have also missed the part where the DB was pulling him backward. When I first saw it, I was expecting the yellow flag.

Vernon has been making catches and getting crushed for years. Thats happens alot when you run the Seam route. He is willing to take the hit. I dunno exactly what happened on that play, but when I saw it I thought that he didn't think he had a chance at it.

I mean...really? The O didn't perform well yesterday and your reaction here is to criticise the one guy who did anything because of one suspect play?

Personally, Frank Gore's play concerned me the most. It was rough sledding out there for most of the game, but even when it looked like he had a shot to get that extra yard for the first down or the TD...he was just incapable of making the play. He didn't have that burst or the power to get that extra yard.

I could have just been a bad game for him. I'm not drawing conclusions, but what I saw worried me a bit.

Wow , No one Saw that he was held or pulled by his shoulder ? You guys are unbleivable , fortywhiners for sure , when he had so many TD's you were riding his nuts but now wow !

I think he is referencing more of the style of play of those versus Davis for the WCO system. Davis is more physical, should he figure out how to find the open zones better... damn. Right now, he is most dangerous with the seam route due to his speed.

He is also 5 times the blocker Clark is and 2 times the blocker Witten is.
