I saw the preview. When I saw that pic of him as a kid in the 49er gear, I switched the channel.

Wake up and smell the ROSES!!!

After the game, when Norv and Harbaugh meet in the middle of the field, Harbaugh told Norv "I like your third...", and Norv quickly quipped - "He's your's"!
Harbaugh went home and immediately got rid two of his QBs. End of story! This is my story.

....and a very cool one at that, 49ERSAM. Now where can a get that snack and and backrub?

Smith is only a placeholder. Harbaugh is going to look for guys that will perform in his system.

we are going to resign him to an extension, then trade him for a 7th.

Nice addition for future.

This. People are thinking he is going to light it up this year or he is the savior or something. Nope. Alex Smith, no matter how much some people, like myself, don't like him, is going to be the guy for 2011, barring injury. Harbaugh's plan is to make Smith a winner for this year, and then hopefully bring him back on that 2nd year option as Kap and in a way Tolzien too continue to sit and learn. We all know Kap is nowhere ready to do anything in the NFL at this point, and that even though Tolzien looks more comfortable right now, is also not ready to start.

I don't like Smith as a player. Gave up on the guy after his play at the beginning of last year. But if he is the starter, he will have my full support. Smith is the season. If he isn't playing, theres no way we make the playoffs, even though he doesn't give us a great chance in the first place to make it there lol. Hopefully the OL holds up because we know Smith can make plays if given time, and so we don't have to see Kap or Tolzien for at least one more year.

CAN'T WAIT FOR SUNDAY.

He's fine. He's turning the water to Gatorade and feeding the Niner masses with Tiger Milk protein bars.
I doubt he's going to challenge Kaepernick for the backup QB spot. At least initially (first 6 to 8 weeks).

Yes, he comes from a West Coast college offense, but he doesn't know the Niners playbook or offensive system AT ALL.

As 3rd string, he's going to get minimal to no practice reps. Sure, he can learn by watching, but he wont be out there running the plays.

Now, with all that said, it's rather sad that he STILL MAY BE MORE "PRO READY" than Kaepernick. In general and probably specifically for this team. Makes me question Harbaugh a bit. Running a WCO, he drafted an "athlete" that happens to play QB, vs someone who was already versed in the foundation of the offense (taking snaps under center, 5 step drops, timing routes, etc).

Teams always seem to gamble on the "higher upside", but there's something to be said for taking the "more solid/ready" prospect and coaching him up even more when you get him.

I think he will challenge kAep by the bye week.

Let's go niner football.
