All of this talk just points out how hard it is to find a good QB to play at this level. If they were truthful, 20 teams in this league would say they are not happy with their QB situation heading into the regular season. The question is; which coaching staff will make the most of what they have?
l
looking at the entire situation, from their starter to the 3rd stringer, I'm sure there are at least 20 teams who feel the position needs work, whether its because they have no reliable backup, or have an aging starter with no future at the position, or a s**t starter and nothing good behind him.
and beyond the 6 or 7 elite QB's, the majority of NFL QB's are mediocre, even the ones who put up great numbers, even the one who win. Despite his success, I bet John Harbaugh would upgrade from Flacco if he could, for instance.
i'm assuming when we say "situation" we're talking about 1st through 3rd string, present and future. And, anyway, even taking your fifteen teams, that leaves 17 that we can, for the sake of argument, say have some doubt at the position.
i don't think dj meant 20 completely literally. his point was more that there are a lot of really average QB's in the league--starting--and when you look at the depth chart, it starts looking a little grim. yes, the Colts are set at QB...unless Manning gets hurt, in which case they will be picking in the top ten. And while Romo, Schaub, and Flacco--even Eli, and I'll throw in Cutler--have had some success in the league, are they elite QB's? I don't think so. Stafford looks phenomenal when he's healthy, which isn't often. The point is: how many teams right now feel really confident that not only their starter is the real deal but also that his backup can win games for them if needed? Not many.

I'd rather have fitzpatrick or gradkowski than alex.....maybe even grossman or tarvaris.
Bengals way worse the Ginger will not have a good year for Cinci. Fitzpatrick is okay, but his stats did not equate to wins and the Bills played from behind a lot last year. Washington is horrible Rex Grossman and John Beck are you serious, and Seattle Tavaris Jackson has had his been yanked as the starter more than an asian massage parlor and Whitehurst has not looked good. I feel that our situation is better than those teams!

i think its pretty obvious what the question in the thread is referencing. It doesn't say, "Do we have the worst starting QB in the NFL?" It isn't a question about starters, its a question about the position and how our depth chart stacks up to other teams. Obviously, we're somewhere towards the lower third right now, but because its such a pivotal position, and there are so few good QB's to go around, I think its safe to say that every team in the league would upgrade the position if they could.

Alex Smith and Chad Henne both benefited tremendously that the lockout lasted as long as it did. If not we might be seeing threads reading "Hasselbeck to mentor young Kaepernick".

Dalton's career is going to be as bad as alex's especially with the rough start. Maybe it would have been different if we had drafted him.

not really, but there are very few good #2's even. and some of the "good" #1's aren't really that good.

Then curtis painter will come in, and do his best Joey Harrington impersonation. He also has orlovsky behind him, who could possibly be a game manager...IF and only IF the colts had a running game.

Just the fact that Painter is ahead of Orlovsky is not good. Orlovsky is the same guy who stepped out of his own endzone right?
Peyton has had 2 surgeries in the past 2 years. While he doesn't get hit a lot the Colts need to think about their QB for the future. And it's not Painter. Which is why I would throw them in this discussion. If Peyton can't play they're screwed

See thats what im saying. People can say the Colts have the worst "qb situation", but in reality, do they?
