I think the addition of Rogers, Whitner, and Williams brings way more experience to our secondary, so I would say yes!

Whitner and Smith is better than Whitner and Goldson. Williams as depth. Safety position= upgraded.
Clements was a stout run defender and occasionally made big plays, but gave up tooooo many big plays at the same time. Rogers won't get too many interceptions, and will likely drop a good amount, but it wasn't as if Clements was some INT machine out there.
Overall, this secondary improved. Spencer is and always will be solid, but he is sort of like Rogers. Good in coverage, but lacks good ball skills. Hopefully, with an improved pass rush, our pass defense will improve.

With our safety depth Upgraded, that improves our secondary by itself. Even if Brock and Adams start.
Everyone remembers how we lost to the saints, or how goldson got schooled by bowe and the chiefs, i believe our new safety tandem should be able to actually cover TE's.
Hell maybe now with fangio we will be able to stop a screen, and a flea flicker.

ignore goldson
reggie smith is replacing goldson
donte whitner is replacing michael lewis
hopefully he can be as good as lewis
reggie smith will have to step up, he can't be worse than goldson of last year
also the pass rush has to come thru....aldon smith all day hopefully

IDK - I'm worried about that Williams dude from Minnesota- it looks like Minnesota fans are glad that he's gone! We just did them a favor!

i think so. if nothing else, we replaced past-their-prime vets with experienced vets who are still in their prime.

absolutely
clements is a better tackler than rogers, but rogers is better in coverage..the job of a corner is to cover, therefore rogers > clements
whitner >> than lewis and mays
reggie smith > goldson (not a new add, but an upgrade nonetheless in my opinion)
madieu williams adds veteran depth
culliver ? (obviously the verdict still out on him since he hasnt played a minute yet)

Yes, but not nearly enough. The secondary will definitely be an area of emphasis next year...you can bet on it.
I agree with this, but if the D can go from 24th against the pass to 15th, while its not great, it would be a huge improvement over the disaster that was last season.
They were so bad last year, that type of improvement isn't totally unrealistic, especially if our pass rush under Fangio improves.
This. Can you imagine if Aldon Smith turns out to be Ware-esque? Double team him and J. Smith and Ray Mac will be on fire. Plus if only ONE of our young CBs turns out to be serviceable....

First post.... but I'm happy with the recent additions. I loved Whitner, and he will be an upgrade over Dashon. I thought we were playoff team last year, so I'm glad we didn't add too much.

I seriously thought Goldson sucked as a cover safety. Teams heavily planned and executed successfully, the misdirection plays vs us. I think we got much faster in the secondary. Teams would always hit our weakness in the secondary which was lack of speed at nearly all 4 positions and lack of awareness at the Safety position.

Yes, we have more speed and playmaking ability with Smith starting.
