I'm not trolling, just trying to be an honest non-homer. I know it's considered blasphemous not to assert our dynasty teams were the greatest, but if we're being honest with ourselves, our teams benefitted from weaker competition.

What the 1999 Rams did, as much as we hate their oganization, is incredible. And it's OK if they have the greatest team of all-time...it's the only SB champion team they've ever had. Just like the 85 Bears. Let them enjoy their one spectacular year. The 49ers have 5 rings, even if none of those teams are Top 10 all-time individually. We had sustained excellence.

1989 Playoff Run
W Minnesota Vikings 41-13
W Los Angeles Rams 30-3
W Denver Broncos 55-10

Outscored opponents 126-26, an average of 33.3 per game. Outgained opponents 1306 yards to 708, twice holding opponents under 200 total yards offense. Won the turnover battle 3 for us, 12 for opponents. Yeah, I think that team was pretty dominant.

94 niners!

Our '04 team woulda shut them out...like 35-0 or something. that 89 team couldnt hang my favorite team was the 94 team i think they woulda beat the 89 team for real.

I beg to differ. It took the infusion of Deon Sanders and William Flyd, among others, to put some swag on that 94 team. The 1989 team was just straight up ill!

In 1989 the Niners played EIGHT regular season games against teams with records ABOVE .500 and went 6-2. The Rams played ONE regular season game against a team with a winning record (the Titans) and lost.

They had Martz and the fast surface and they caught lightning in a bottle for a season . . . good for them. I agree with the Superbowl Champion rankings by NFL.com that puts the 1999 Rams at #19 . . . that sounds about right.

I was lucky enough to witness both teams and the '94 team had more swag, but the '89 team was maybe the BEST TEAM EVER. If Craig had not fumbled at the end of the NFC championship game we would have had the first 3 peat ever.

I really started following football in '91 so I didnt get to see that team play. Ive seen highlights but that doesnt tell the whole story about how good a team was. The SB against Denver is what made me become a 49er fan. It was the first game I can remember watching.

I remember getting heckled by cocky Bronco fans in the lobby at Caesars South Lake (I was wearing Niner gear of course) the morning of the game. I went to watch the game at my brothers house in Sacramento and just remember thinking in the second quarter how effing miserable those dudes had to be . . .

Who cares about yards? It's points that matter. The 1999 Rams scored 70 more points than the 1989 49ers.

And they had to play powerhouse playoff teams like the Vikings, Bucs, and Titans.

People don't seem to remember something called "the salary cap". That shut down the whole era of completely dominant teams.

Although I think the 94 Niners were the best 49ers team, the 89 team made the other teams at the time look like they were uncoordinated buffoons. The 89 Broncos were a GOOD team that ran into a buzz saw.

Based on the scrub schedule the Rams played during the 1999 regular season they should have scored 70 more points. Besides the Titans (who beat them) the Rams played NOBODY during the regular season. The NFC West actually had three teams with winning records in 1989 . . . plus they had to play two division champions plus two wild card teams during the regular season before they crushed the playoff field.

The powerhouse Vikings, Bucs and Titans???? . . .
