Yeah... but Lowell Cohn is more of a talker/sayer than a real writer.

Cohn's recent optimism is a departure from his usual style.

Cohn raises a lot of good points, Baalke has proven (for his second year in a row now) that he's ballsy, and that this team actually has a vision/direction under Harbaugh.
We're picking projects, yes, but this time we actually have coaches to taper them to success (unlike the other regimes). -We have more quality coordinators/assistants now than we've had since the Moochy years.

Bingo, all the guys being picked are going to have coaches matched up with them to help develop them and extract the best possible performances from them. Smith is going to be spending a lot of time with Leavitt and also possibly Tomsula.
Culliver will be spending time with Ed Donatell, Brad Seely and Greg Jackson.
Kaepernick I'm guessing will be spending a lot of time with Harbaugh, Roman and Geep Chryst.
Its nice to finally have some competent, heady coaches. I feel really good about these guys being tutored and developed properly for once.

I appreciate Cohn not hating on the Niners for once, and I understand that he writes an editorial/opinion column, but I can't say I like or respect his juvenile writing style.
He's writes less like a professional journalist than an 8th grader writing student. He seems to pick a contrarian position and then find ways to twist things he can find to support his pre-arrived at 'thesis.'
In this case, I like the thesis he's founding the article on and some of his references ring true, but I still don't like his column.

"If you believe in Harbaugh β no reason not to believe at this point β you must have faith in his assessment that Kaepernick is a difference maker in the good sense and, in Harbaugh's words, βhis production has been dramatic.β
I really like the above statement.
I view the Niner beat-writers on a spectrum, from usually positive(the Matts), to usually negative(Kawakami, Cohn). When either side starts writing contrary to their normal position, I take notice, since it's far harder to change someone's opinion/outlook than to reinforce it.

I know Lowell Cohn annoys a lot of people around here. But, he is a real pro. He was writing about the Niners before many around here were born. He knows what he's talking about. And, as a successful columnist, he knows that being skeptical invokes the greatest rage and reaction. I still remember how he was outraging Niner fans when he worked for the Chronicle and suggested Walsh should start Young over Montana. He's not always right, but he knows his stuff.
That's why I find this article and the one he wrote about Aldon Smith so encouraging. Trust me on this. If Cohn thought these were bad picks, he'd be slamming Harbaugh like crazy. The fact that Lowell Cohn likes these picks means a lot to me.
