It's good to hear that the NFL sack leader is on the niners(!) Now baalke needs to draft one or two more Aldons(players that can be sack leaders) & the D is sold up.

This guy is going to be EXPENSIVE to resign in a few years! I hope we can afford to keep him! Although we might be able to at the expense of an aging Justin Smith.

Had to write this fellas, my wife just said some funny s**t.
After putting my daughter down, she said, "So who did ya'll draft".
I told her A.Smith.
she said, "Who"
I told her i didnt know who he was either, but we needed someone at that position
Then she said, "Damn, see thats why yall keep on losing. It seems like ya'll always pick up bad people that are nobody's. Why dont ya'll get any all stars".
She was like you know how u have Charlie Murphy and Eddie Murphy as brothers and Eddie's first then Charlie. Well with our picks it would be their third cousin Bob Murphy that we'd get.
I'm like damn she dont even watch football unless I do, and talkin bout my team.
Oh well, Go NinersOriginally posted by Aussie49er:
Still think we should have traded into next years draft instead of this pick.Originally posted by Negrodamus:

If I'm later proven wrong that'll be great, but I highly doubt I will. I HATE THIS PICK.Originally posted by ForeverYoung:
I can't believe we really made this pick. We have no QB and a terrible secondary and we fixed NEITHER when Prince was still on the board for us to take??? I mean, what?! I could not believe this pick was made, just unreal.
I can only imagine what the hell we do the rest of the draft. I can't even imagine us taking a QB in the second round now, whereas before we could've gone CB first round, QB second or vice-versa. Now we pretty much HAVE TO draft a CB in the 2nd round.
This seems like a Trent Baalke draft pick, in which case all I can say is the Trent Baalke era sure has started off just grand.Originally posted by GolittaCamper:
Watching the clips in the first post made me a little ill, this guy is slow, has bad feet and runs way to upright, he is too small to play DE and will have to play OLB. With his lack of speed, TE's and Backs will eat him up. Unless he is the next Ted Hendricks (AKA)"the mad stork" we are truly screwed. Maybe I'm over reacting, everything I read about the guy projects him as a first rounder, but I don't see it. The kid is a project, he may be great, but I can't see an immediate impact.
I will give him this he does remind me a little of Charles Haley, but just not as fast.Originally posted by GolittaCamper:
We could have picked this guy up in the second round. He may be a good player, but the point is we could have picked him up later. Not a wasted pick, but a wasted opportunity at the 7 spot.Originally posted by 49erRider:
Seems like Baalke had no Plan B after Patrick Peterson was off the board.
I think Aldon Smith will turn out to be our best pass rusher (besides Justin Smith), but doesn't say much at all. He had no business being chosen as early as 7th overall. So far, Baalke is 2-for-2 on screwing up the first pick of his drafts (I'm referring to the unnecessary trade-up to get Anthony Davis as the first screw up - not so much the actual selection of Anthony Davis).Originally posted by GolittaCamper:
Just re-watched those clips on the first page, now I feel even WORSE about the pick!
Runs upright, slow feet, gets run out of plays in the running game, I hope to hell he can cover backs and ends in the passing game. He looks pretty average in his "High light film"Originally posted by Raidersducksick:
Is it me or did we draft a Manny Lawson stunt double...And why do we keep looking for the next Julian Peterson
Your reservations have been placed, the crow will be served in about 18 weeks, thank you

Keep in mind we have like 11-12 other draft picks to go.
I hope he is a beast!
Just sayin

Agree, almost all positions in a 3-4 are interchangeable and while Aldon may start at SAM, he will be moved all over the field, including inside to attack weaknesses (ala Matthews).
It depends on the scheme. Old school Parcells style two gap is less flexible. Better pass rusher goes on the weak side better run defender on the strong. Newer attacking one gap zone blitz schemes are far more flexible. Obviously we have a new school philosophy with Fangio.
I think Fangio and Baalke saw exactly what they wanted in Aldon with his versatility. I totally agree that they'll move him all over to create mismatches. I mean... the kid played the 3 technique extremely well... I thought he looked better rushing from there than outside!
He rushed standing up in two point as well. He was dropped back into coverage... he's extremely versatile. Just watch his instincts on the interception his first game back three weeks after breaking his leg! Man, you could really tell his leg was hurting him on the return, though. Tough mother f**ker!
I'm excited about this pick. He's got violent rip moves and stacks and sheds, too. He's not the best tackler, though.... Not a big deal, the coaches will get on that, I'm sure. He also doesn't have the bend that Quinn does (It was Aldon or Quinn at that spot for me the way the draft went), but he's got some crazy sidestep quickness that he uses with his LONG (35 1/2'') arms. He's got a ton of potential, IMO. If anything, Fangio knows what to do with linebackers in the 3-4. I can't see this turning out to be a bad pick. He even sounds like a good smart kid in his interviews.
I are hype.

I was the first one to post when the draft pick happened. I was so mad. My roommates were there with me and asked me "Who?". All I could say was "I have no f**king idea.
However, about halfway through the his first season, I made up for it. In went out and bought his jersey. I'm glad I'm not in the front office. I wear his jersey most game days (I've only got a Willis, Crabtree and Smith jersey). Love the guy. Quickly becoming my favorite Niner.
