Unless the rookie has a Matt Ryan season, and we are not able to pick up a quality FA, Smith is the best option.

Bradford had a good season, yet his season was worse than Smith´s.

I do not see us givin upa a first and second riound pick for Kolb ( that´s what I think the Eagles would ask), Hasslebeck? Over the hill often injured, McNabb ( the asking price will be very high if the Skins would trade him at all).

I agree Smith with Harbaugh is a good match. BUT, I don't think I could stomach one more season of watching Smith in yet another new system. True, he might play a bit better under Harbaugh, but being in an unfamiliar system most likely means those inevitable 2-3 plays a game where Smith looks completely lost and does something stupid.

IF we at least had a solid o-line, maybe 1/2 those dumb plays would be gone because the pocket wouldn't break down so much. BUT the line is young and will be learning a new system too. Bad combination - Smith and oline in another new system.

The problem is we need a veteran that knows how to avoid a broken play from turning into a catastrophe. But the choices there are not much help either.

And it is almost impossible that a rookie would play better than Smith -- even if he had a Sam Bradford type season.

Frankly, this looks like a painful rebuilding year to me.

Oh by the way, why does everyone think Smith's mobility is a good thing?? If he pulls down the ball and simply runs for yardage, okay. But when he is outside the pocket he in not very accurate and runs nearly all the way to the sideline before finally throwing the ball -- which puts his receivers in tight spaces and usually leads to him throwing the ball away. Smith is NOT dangerous to a defense outside the pocket.

Charlie Casserly and Madden just believe that Alex Smith does not have the "it ' factor. His stats are misleading, they appear OK, but if you want a person who is a leader, someone who can maintain a lead or come from behind, or convert on a criticial third down, that stat Alex is the worst.

Just like in the olden days folks would compare Marinos, Jim Kellys and Elways stats to Montana's. Joe lost in every statistical category, yet every sane person would want Joe as their qb.

I am disapointed Harbaugh even extendedSmith a contract offer. I would rather get a FA, play Carr or a rookie qb. ANYT?HING to get the stench of Alex Smith our of the niners. He is not even a niner and he is still mentioned, Ugh, the happiest day will be when he retires from the NFL or if another NFC west team picks up alex.

i agree he is not yet a great leader (but i have heard he is becoming a little bit better)

Leadership quality is something that you are born and raised with, its not something that can learned. Either you have 'it" or you dont.

u can develop it its hard to lead a whole team when ur like 20 ish or somehting im not saying he is a leader but in past year willis vernon and gore said he was but for all we know it can be just talk
