Now imagine all the medical attention an ex football player needs with post career flare ups from old injuries, medical expenses for your family and many other things that cost a lot of money. They wouldnalso be dumb to keep cash over assets so even the well off ones probably don't have a lot of cash around.

I think Montana made 3 million a year on his last contract, I am sure he can well afford to buy medical insurance or pay medical bills. He sued his broke first wife from selling some things he gave her almost 30 years ago, he sued a neighbor for cutting down a tree, etc,etc. As a human being the dude is a jerk, if you would like to worship him like he is Mother Teresa just because he can play football, go ahead, I won't.

If you got injured on your job, I would think you would expect your employer to pay for your medical care through workers comp, or otherwise. There is no workers comp in Football. The way the NFL discards its former players is atrocious, once they have gotten their production

I won't argue a lot of players from the glory days have miserable lives, because of medical conditions and in the early 80's and before the average player was only earning 2-3 times the average working man. A lot of the guys are busted up and broke, Montana is beat-up, but rather wealthy. I could see a broke, battered ex-player, grabbing every dime he can, because he needs it. Joe doesn't.

The greatest of all-time QB and the greatest of all-time WR playing for our team and winning four SB together, too. Man, were we spoiled back then.

The 49er Hall of Fame was 'opened' in 2010 with Eddie D. as the 1st inductee.

Jed was talking about this, going way back to that December KNBR interview, Jed wants to get all the 49ers legends/icons back into the mix in which his parents had pissed off!

Before Jed put on the 'man' pants (and took over the franchise), John & Denise all but black-listed ANYTHING to do with Eddie D from the organization, which led to many vets linked to both Eddie & Walsh to black-list the franchise (beyond showing up for mandatory half-time ceremonies/charity functions).

A lot of the vets have been hurt, and in the dark... Jed is really looking to change all of this (as promised).
