I'd do it and never look back!

Luck will make the Niners a winner from year 2013 to 2025---well worth Willis.

bird in hand is worth 2 in the bush. Willis is the best ILB/MLB in the NFL. We don't know what luck is other than a college kid that MIGHt be a star...and might be a bust.

I concur

Link?
where can you find a PDF copy of Bill Walsh Finding the Winning Edge?
This doesn't make that much sense. If you can evaluate talent, you can evaluate talent. Just because Baalke is from the Parcells lineage doesn't mean he is incapable of evaluating wco talent. It's a silly argument.

It makes a ton of sense when you include philosophy into that equation. Some systems are built around the QB, others are built around D, running game, etc. For instance, you might be able to evaluate talent, but if your philosophy is to pound up the middle ever 1st and 2nd down................you would draft 2 olinemen. Don't be naive.

This is must listen, he is fired up about the GM search. He says it is important for the next head coach to send a message to the fans and organization that we are going to embrace the legacy of what made the 49ers successful, from traveling to road games, to the way the 49ers practice, to scripting the first 15 plays, to running west coast offense style formations, etc...

He says it is already hard enough to win in the league, why not use the tools that makes most of the the teams successful - Saints, Patriots, Eagles, Colts, Falcons - he says all those teams use WCO plays even though they say its their own.

Quote:
To this day, Belichick insists Bill Walsh: Finding the Winning Edge is the greatest piece of football literature regarding a franchise blueprint ever written. Belichick read the book in the nuclear winter of his own coaching career, between the disaster with the Cleveland Browns and resurrection with the New England Patriots. At a time in his life time when Belichick was forced to re-examine his basic truths about team building, he wrapped his hands around the second of several books by Walsh.

When he was finished, Belichick's philosophical foundation as a coach had once again solidified beneath his feet.

"Saying it was outstanding wouldn't do it justice. For a coach, it's a Bible," Belichick said. "That book reinforced most of what I thought as a coach. I was glad to see Bill write it and say the things he did because a lot of it was either what I was trying to do or what I believed in. Between the book, the clinics, talking to Bill and picking things up from the (San Francisco) 49ers organization, there was certainly a confirmation in my mind that this is the way to do it."

Nice read, I love hearing about Walsh's influence on other coaches.

So a good talent evaluator can only find good players for a specific system? That makes him worthless long term to an organization. I stand by my statement : weak ass argument.

just look at the 1980's The Niners had Joe Montana , the Bears had Mike Singletary----if you were the Bears---would you have traded Singletary and a # 1 pick to the Niners for Montana?

you have to take chances at times ---but Harbaugh would know better than I if Luck is worth it----I can't honestly say.

You're being naive if you think Singletary had nothing to do with that....

I agree. Anyways, people think Baalke is getting Harbaugh. Harbaugh is a WCO coach.

Therfore, the argument is a weakass argument.
