Steve Young on KNBR

Steve has a point, most of the good teams today run some version of the WCO. I don't think it's a pressing need for our GM to have that focus, but I love Steve's allegiance to the Niners and passion to get us back to a competitive state. I used to attend training camps in Rocklin every summer while they were there, and of all the Niners I ever met Steve Young seemed by far the coolest most genuine guy...wish he were affiliated with our franchise again.

People just don't get what Steve is saying sometimes. It's not about living in the past, the past is gone, but the ethics/front office/offensive principles Bill Walsh had in place have been stolen by almost every successful team in the league right now!

Just because Baalke isn't a WCO GM doesn't mean he wouldn't hire a WCO type coach. People are saying he'll get Harbaugh, and hes definitely a WC guy..

I'd do it and never look back!
Luck will make the Niners a winner from year 2013 to 2025---well worth Willis.

And what will they learn? 80's and 90's football? And we don't have Joe Montana / Steve Young anymore?
Will that help us?

This is must listen, he is fired up about the GM search. He says it is important for the next head coach to send a message to the fans and organization that we are going to embrace the legacy of what made the 49ers successful, from traveling to road games, to the way the 49ers practice, to scripting the first 15 plays, to running west coast offense style formations, etc...
He says it is already hard enough to win in the league, why not use the tools that makes most of the the teams successful - Saints, Patriots, Eagles, Colts, Falcons - he says all those teams use WCO plays even though they say its their own.

To this day, Belichick insists Bill Walsh: Finding the Winning Edge is the greatest piece of football literature regarding a franchise blueprint ever written. Belichick read the book in the nuclear winter of his own coaching career, between the disaster with the Cleveland Browns and resurrection with the New England Patriots. At a time in his life time when Belichick was forced to re-examine his basic truths about team building, he wrapped his hands around the second of several books by Walsh.
When he was finished, Belichick's philosophical foundation as a coach had once again solidified beneath his feet.
"Saying it was outstanding wouldn't do it justice. For a coach, it's a Bible," Belichick said. "That book reinforced most of what I thought as a coach. I was glad to see Bill write it and say the things he did because a lot of it was either what I was trying to do or what I believed in. Between the book, the clinics, talking to Bill and picking things up from the (San Francisco) 49ers organization, there was certainly a confirmation in my mind that this is the way to do it."
