5 years? the 9ers been sucking for 8 years, with no end in sight....the yorks need to move the team, but leave the logo, uniforms, and name....

Bullcrap! You need to find another team.
Some of you posters act as though Jed isn't capable of learning on the job. That's what Eddie did, and Jed can do it too. Whatever smoke screens are being put out to obscure the secret negotiations that may or may not be taking place, we will probably never know. Is this kind of stuff necessary? Probably. If you want a certain person or persons and you know there are others that will be trying to get the same people, you do what you must to get the one you want. WE are like mushrooms, we are kept in the dark and fed s**t. Only problem is that in niner talk s**t takes wing, reality shifts, and the next thing you know a new thread is born....all nonsense, right???

This guy might be working for Jed for quite some time now but he never was a 49ers guy or somebody whose name has been floating around for years. Some GMs with other teams were unknown before they got their job and their team started winning.
Trent started from the bottom of the profession and obviously he's got talent and good management/leadership skills to reach this far, albeit the 49ers. After I've seen him talk a few times during the draft and that he puts out very good presentations tells me he is a very good professional and knows what he's talking about.
Also, when he was on KNBR (or another radio station - can't remember when) he appeared to be a personable and likeable guy. I have seen GMs that are just total AsHls and can't even do a decent job. If I am working for a big company and doing my best, with all the talent that I have, dedication, and loyalty to elevate myself to the next position and just get bypassed by an outsider - I would be so raging MAD.
Nice 49erSam, I agree. This team is in good position to begin winning, we need a QB and coach to lead. Baalke is more than capeable of putting the structure together. He is after all a protege of Parcells. Trent Baalke isn't our problem and very well could be part of the solution, from what I've heard Harbough and Gruden think highly of Baalke.
He isn't really a "protege". He only worked with Parcells for one year. I'm definitely reserving judgment on Baalke until April through. So far he has moved up the ladder fairly quickly and could really be ready to get it done but I am still holding out hope for Ted Sundquist.

To people supporting the Baalke hire, let me ask you. If we were to go out and get the director of player personnel from the Bills, Panthers, Broncos, etc. would you still think that was OK? Because what we're doing to fix this team is getting the director of player personnel from a bad team. It's normally guys from NE, Baltimore, NYG, etc etc that get these jobs...not guys from the worst teams in the league. But hey, his first draft was brilliant, because you know, so many of these rookies have been great for us. And if you think rookies don't make a difference, go check out Cleveland's draft, or KC's draft, this year.
The only problem I see with this is, why would anybody from NE, Baltimore, or NY want to come to a team that has such a recent history of inept ownership that has no clue what it is doing? Sure Jed seems to be saying the right thing, but words mean nothing it is the action that counts.
If Jed can pull off a big hire, I am all for it. Although I will not be holding my breath.
Who's to say Baalke wouldn't be picked up by another team if we didn't hire hime? I know Bill Parcells thinks highly of him. Baalke only has one draft to his name and he did very well with only weeks to prepare for it. By well I mean critics generally gave us a B+ or A. Baalke has not even "led" this team from a GM standpoint for a full season. I don't understand the knock on this guy. The only thing he lacks is years of experience. But how many years experience did Dimitroff (sp?) have in NE before going to Atlanta? This team needs an impact coach, Baalke is respected around the league and deserves a shot if he is as talented as Parcells thinks.

I think you're wrong! Baalke is under contract, so If another team wants him, they'll have to promote him to a GM position. We are the only fools who would do that.
Say you were on another team conducting a GM search...would Baalke even be on your radar being on a losing team as a scout for 5 years, just recently promoted to VP of Player Personnel?????? What a joke!!!

I don't mind. All the talking heads are ripping the hiring of Baalke, but, I haven't heard them come up with anyone better. If Baalke is such a bad hire, WHO IS BETTER???
Until they start naming names, they should come up with something else to bore us with.

So far, the Baalke promotion is just a rumor. However, it is troubling for a couple of reasons.
First, it continues the York's trend of hiring the inexperienced, and giving them way too much power. Nolan, McCloughan, Singletary, and now Baalke. Maybe the fourth times the charm. However, does anyone think that Baalke would be on the short list for any other GM job in the league?
Second, didn't little Jed promise the fans an exhausting search for the best candidate available? Why do that, if his mind was already made up. It's not nice to lie to your customers.
The only reason I can see for this move is that they have Harbaugh lined up for the HC job, and he doesn't want a GM who will threaten his authority. Well, that worked with Walsh and McVey, so I guess we can hope it works again.

So if you don't trust York to make a good GM hire decsion, you should be cheering for him to retain the one proven commodity he has -- Baalke.
But if you trust York to make a good GM hire decision, then you cheer for him to get someone better.
People forget - this was the 2010 49er Offseason from a GM perspective:
1)Willis extended
2) Davis extended
3) Ted Ginn brought in for a 6th (no loss there for a WR/PR/KR)
4) Decent draft with 2 starters and a up-and-coming back-up
6) Sims re-signed for 2 years (brilliant signing)
5) Brian Westbrook signed back-up to Gore (brilliant signing)
6) All first round picks signed well before training camp
7) Didn't cave in to Manny Lawson
8) Didn't cave in to Abruyo Franklin
9) Didn't cave in to extending Dashon Goldson but drafted his replacement
10) Travis LaBoy signed (had almost as many sacks as Haralson and Lawson combined)
Maybe it's me but that's a kick-ass GM off-season for the 49ers. This is MUCH better than the drunken McCloughan decisions.
Tell me what's wrong with this list as a GM.
Do I think this is enough to make him GM? Maybe not, but that's a damn good start in my opinion. What's insane to me is Baalke is getting hammered for "the failure on the field." I agree with Kawakami that Singletary was allowed to run a muck but that's the power structure Jed created. Singletary inherited Nolan's role. That MUST be changed. Maybe it is ..... but Baalke, IMHO saved what respectability was left.
Imagine just how angry the NT would be without Sims, Westbrook or LaBoy. Adam Snyder playing LT, a rook who has problems keeping his feet at RB and absolutely no pass-rush at all.
Everyone's head would have exploded.

Jed has become the scariest guy for 49er fans throughout the world. A lot of you guys might have kids his age.
He might not be ready yet.
