16/31 (51.6%) for 148 yards 1 INT
11/23 (47.8%) for 129 yards 1 TD & 1 INT
10/25 (40%) for 194 yards 1 TD & 1 INT
The guy had one good game (although a very good one a that). The league has him figured out and he proved incapable of making adjustments.

i really think Troy should be our starter right now. Troy would have had a better chance against SD.
When the Niners were 1-6 they threw the team on Troy's shoulders. Troy is the only reason we were in playoff contention until thursday night. I'd like Troy to be the starting qb next year. Troy is better than Alex at qb even if he only knows a quarter of the playbook.
Alex may know the entire playbook backwards but simply can't execute when it counts.
I think it was psychotic that Alex wasn't pulled at halftime versus the Chargers. He hadn't done anything in the first half.

I second this notion, Alex Smith, I feel, regardless of how many OCs he has had, really has shown no progress..... more than 5 years in in the league, I feel he already had his shot and the extra play is just over doing it at this point. In the preseason, nate davis has looked better, I don't know why he didn't get his shot, but that was just the decision of the current management. I commend alex for taking less money to stay with the club because he feels that he has not completed his mission, but that raises the question, how much is enough?

It is unbelievable how little leeway any OTHER QB on the 49ers roster gets. Alex Smith is given an exponential number of excuses/opportunities to become an average QB while there is absolutely ZERO margin for error with our other QBs (Shaun Hill, Troy Smith).
BTW: Bradford's rookie season > Alex Smith's career.
Believe this, Alex knows the playbook better than any qb we have right now. But it doesn't matter because the oline is crap. You can throw anyone of our qbs back there but at this point the coaches want the one with better knowledge of the plays.
So you're saying if Bradford was on this team, we would be having a better season?
Yup
The HUGE difference is that though Bradford came from a spread system similar to Alex, from the very first day, Sam had one of the best and brightest offensive minds in the game tailoring the offense specifically for what Bradford could do, and at the rate he could absorb it. Pat Shurmur started with simple plays, with short receivers on very easy throws...at least one, sometimes two on every play, protection schemes were designed specifically for individual plays with easy checkdowns, etc. In short, the entire Ram offense was geared to make Bradford comfortable and able to take the things he did in the spread and apply them to the NFL and then GRADUALLY move into pro style plays...and it has worked, though Sam appears to have hit a wall the past three weeks but he is far advanced over where he started the season.
If Bradford would have started the season with the 49ers and trying to run this offense with the amateurs that are steering this truck, he would be a wreck right now. To compare Bradford NOW to what he was at the beginning of the season is night and day. The very comparison between Smith and Bradford is the strongest evidence to fire Singletary. One has had every advantage to enable his development while the other has had every barrier imaginable thrown in his path.

How good do you think T. Smith would have peformed? What kind of numbers could he put up on one of the top defenses in the league?
Cmp/Att Yards Avg TD INT QB-Rating
Peyton Manning v. Chargers D (lost 36-14)
31/48 285 5.9 2 4 59.8
Tom Brady v. Chargers D (won 23-20 with 179 total yards of offense)
19/32 159 5.0 1 0 82.7
Do you think T.Smith would put upsuperior numbers to them against the same D?

He's really not very good. Alex is better and gives us the best chance to win.
I hope Troy succeeds with he very easily could have lost the Denver game, he got embarrassed in the Tampa game and was limited in many capacities.
Also he didn't throw to Vernon enough and I know you Alex haters are gonna bring up thursday night but it was one game and Vernon loves Alex for a reason.
Just ride it out with Smith, give him a chance to either audition for another team or come in next year when we draft a QB.

Troy Smith is 10x the qb alex is. I don't care what any of you say anymore about Alex. You alex supporters are delusional. alex smith is a sorry excuse for a qb.
Troy would have given us a shot to win against SD. period. alex didn't do s**t. i gaurantee troy wouldn't have been stopped 4 inches from the goal line.

You are correct Troy would not have been stopped 4 inches short of the goal line.
He would have been stopped 4 YARDS short of the goal line. Troy is MUCH slower than Alex. He would have had not chance to reach the goal line.

Because sing still hasn't figured out he's the reason for the teams failure... It doesn't matter who we have a qb because if your head coach sucks the rest of your team will fallow the leader!

no alex smith's career is a joke. i bet alex will not be starting anywhere in NFL next year and Troy Smith will be starting somewhere in the NFL if not here.
your undying support of Alex Smith is a joke. i hope when alex goes to another team next year as a backup that you follow him there as a fan.
