No, because a good evaluator would realize he can't play.

I don't think Alex will start anywhere in the league but he will get signed. He plays best when the 9ers don't cuff him and let him play catch up. In most situations when a back up is needed it's when the starter gets benched or hurt and Alex has always played well coming off the bench. If Chad Pennington can survive in this league as long as he did and just barely got his 4th or 5th separated shoulder then Alex will definitely be around for awhile.

It will be very interesting to see WHAT the new coach will do for a QB next season. It is clear Carr won't be in the picture and Troy will not have shown enough by that time to be considered a solid backup. That will leave the HC with a choice of either trying to talk Alex Smith into staying, or bring in some other re-tread to hold place until a rookie can be ready to take over. Given that Andrew Luck will not be a 49er, the chances of getting any rookie that would be good enough to start right away are slim and none.
Also, there are no FAs out there that will be any better than Alex Smith. (forget Kevin Kolb - Philly isn't going to give him up without a MAJOR premium payment) As painful as that will make it for many 49er fans, the starting QB next season will be either Troy Smith or someone like Chris Redman, the current backup to Matt Ryan in Atlanta. Redman is 33 and has a career passer rating of 79. I don't know that he would be available but that is the quality that can be expected from a FA that would be coming in.
So if we are going to discuss whether or not we would be on board with the new HC retaining Alex or going with a FA, that conversation must include the quality that FA would bring. At the end of the day, Alex Smith may be a better fit than any FA that would come here.
You high? Alex is not better then Orton or Palmer. To even suggest Alex is the best QB on the market is a joke!
But, FWIW, Orton's numbers have been in free fall for a while. From his once lofty 100+ rating, he has fallen to 93 and is not completing the throws he made earlier in the season as teams have now scouted him.
Carson Palmer has only a rating of 80 despite have Chad and TO to throw to. He is warm soup and little more. Trading for him would cost a 2nd round pick given the dirth of QB talent, and that isn't going to happen.
Were not keeping the bust. So you can stop dreaming! Alex is a third stringer. He not worth a 7th year period! Also thier no promises that Denver will keep Orton. He going to get paid on the open market and who to say Palmer wont get cut? Alex wouldn't start on any team in the league!

The 9ers have one reasonably decent QB...A Smith. T. Smith has demonstrated his weaknesses. Cutting or trading away your only decent QB in order to go looking for a fix is not a very thoughtful solution. It would be wise to keep both Smiths, drop Car and bring in a veteran or a rookie to vie for the job.
Some posts on this site have called for wholesale dismantling the team. That is crazy! We have a fairly happy, competent group of players, playing hard, who deserve to stay together--without the current head coach mucking the whole thing up! They need a few players, including a QB, CB, S, OG, pass rusher and speed WR to take it to the next level. If A or T Smith can do that next year..great. If not, keep bringing in QBs you can find who have a chance to make a difference. Increase the competition and quality level, not just eliminate players!

Uh,realisticly? Seriously are you saying bring back the Bust is realistic? Sorry, but reality is you don't bring back a guy with a 17-30 record in 6 years. That's reality!

The reality is you lack the reasoning capacity to look at and comprehend the whole picture. What about the other players that have the same record? Want to cut them and call them busts too? Funny how you can criticize someone that has a better command of the spoken/written word than you seem to...Stay in school.

Yes because a real coach would get more out of Alex than Dingleberry and NoWin. And they could sit the rookie QB so he can learn instead of putting him in too early like we did for Alex.
But we will need a new QB. Alex could buy us another year with the right coach.

If the new coaching staff keep Alex its because a better alternative wasnt found or is in waiting as a back up to the back. Either way its a forward approach from the new coaches.

Dump her cuz you'll never be satisfied. You need to let her go so she can find a true love somewhere else.
Let Alexis go.
You keep her around but cheat on her with a better QB!

OR
You can show her what you like so she can make it fun for you.
But I guess that would just be too difficult for some guys'. Personally I think that it's more fun in the long run.

Holmgren is the only one I'd trust making that type of decision. Anyone else, and I'd question him.

I like it when I haven't invested anything from my emotional bank account on it.
