1. Clements got his hand on the deep ball to Jackson and deflected it through Jackson's hand. Unfortunately it stick in his right elbow and he pulled away to score. Any other time that ball goes on through to the ground. Bad luck/good luck.
2. Not being able to score from the 6" line was a crusher. SD had scouted the 49ers well. When Byham went in motion right, Siler picked the hole between Iupati and Baas who were both already on men. He had a clear shot. The SD defense out-guessed the 49er offense.
3. Though it was a bogus call, losing Justin Smith. That was a crusher.
After those three plays, the air was out of the 49er balloon. Turn those around and the momentum might have carried the game another way...but it didn't.
SD showed why their pass defense is top drawer. They took away everything long and intermediate. The only thing left was the short zones.
SD also showed why a true #1 receiver with speed and size is crucial if you are going to have a deep passing game. Jackson was just bigger than the 49ers biggest and best defender.
