Post Game Analysis (vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers)

This loss strongly reminds me of last year's loss to Atlanta. For one obviously because it was a historically bad home loss of awful proportions, but also because at the time the team, and us fans were so cocky, so sure the niners would stick it to 'em, talking s**t to the other team's fans and all, and then we get absolutely POUNDED like Paris Hilton after happy hour's over with.

I had the eery feeling before the game too, like "What if we really suck it up bad today, after all this optimism and Troy Smith nut marriage? NAW, Troy is going to roast these turkeys like it's Thanksgiving!! Yeah!!"

The way I see it, in regards to the Troyscuses vs Alexcuses, is last week Troy had a game that was unlike anything I've seen from Alex. A dominating 300 yard game where he overcame incredible adversity to win it. In only his 2nd start. Alex hasn't done that. I still have faith in Troy because if he can do it once, he can do it again. This team is just terrible enough to make him look bad. Alex, I was a huge supporter of him, and I made many Alexcuses, but this year he has just looked plain bad. Throwing just awful INTs, doing that same run to the sidelines and throwing it out of bounds thing he so loves to do. Not taking any risks at all, but end up really costing the team anyway with over-conservatism and some pretty bad decisions.

Do I think this team has a hand in his afwul performance? Sure it most definitely has, and some of these games where he looked not so great weren't really his fault. But even with all the time in the offseason to get in sync with the offense he really hasn't shone the way Troy did last game and put the team on his back to win in the face of almost certain failure. I hope we see more of Troy, he may be actually good. This game raises question marks were before exclamation marks were, but i don't think it closes the door on him by any means.

Man... I used to be local(ish), but not anymore. Wish I had game film to study.

So there really isn't separation? I've been wondering that. Y'know JoeCool and his thing about bringing up "NFL" open vs. "College" open. Do you see the WRs making cuts that put them in position to be thrown open? Arghhh... I wish I could see game film.

Anyway, this is why I think Troy had the early success. His ability to extend the play allowed our receivers time to get open, no matter your definition. Seems to me Tampa showed the rest of the NFL how to take that away.

You're right he was. And that's what worried me about Troy Smith, all these other QBs we've seen come along all lookin' like a brand new spit shined caddy in the driveway with free hookers in it. In other words, too good to be true.

However I don't think Rattay ever overcame the kinds of obstacles Troy did last week. He had a good team his first few games, with good protection, was ahead in his games and all his TDs counted when he threw em. Troy had crap, more crap, and even had Keven Federline standing on top of that crap and still managed to win.

i still can't believe Tim Rattay of all people broke Montana's franchise completion record. Boggles my mind.

This pretty much sums it up. I didn't think he could face more addversity than last week, but obviously TB is better than I mistakenly took them for. Troy did bad, and the whole team did bad.

They became "alexcuses" because it was happening almost every game, yet people were still claiming "but, but, but, Alex is good..." I would still like to see Troy as well, primarily to see A) how he recovers and B) if the good game or bad game was a fluke
