Aside from the article itself, anyone else read the comments? A lot of people were saying they would favor the Yorks selling the team to a Socal owner and moving the team to LA.

how many of YOU favor that idea?

If the team leaves the SF Bay Area, then they are dead to me.

What team is the alternative? There's no way id become a raider fan.

Honestly I would stop watching football for a few years

Actually agree with Blue on this...

This. And I wasn't impressed with the article. I thought it stretched a comparison to a ridiculous point.

Ignoring yet another monotonous highjack, thanks for posting that FL9er, it was a much better article than I was expecting.

The key point, as Kawakami points out, is that Jerrah Jones has had some tangible success and, no matter what you think of him, is a formidable and *gulp* talented owner.

Perhaps a better comparison for the Yorks would be Dan Snyder of the Redskins. Until this season, Snyder has been a full-bore adherent of the "super owner" school and his results are quite similar with what the Yorks have done in SF--although his pathetic earnestness has made the Skins' super owner fiasco a hell of a lot funnier to watch.

It was good to read an article that discussed the importance of a meaningful GM within the organization, I certainly hope this gains traction locally. With any luck, Jed will realize this offseason what Snyder was forced to concede during the previous offseason--GM's are usually better at football than owners.

It doesn't really matter whether Jed is more like Jones or more like Snyder, because in one very important area he's VERY different from both of them. Both Jones and Snyder are willing to spend whatever it takes to get what they want for their teams. Usually they're totally misguided (especially Snyder) but they have the cash and will to at least go for it. Jed doesn't have any of the money and his parents are not willing to let him spend like Jones or Snyder.

The way I see it, if you're going to be an overly meddlesome owner you better at least be throwing around a lot of cash. There's nothing worse than a meddlesome owner that cuts corners.

Agreed. I am proud to admit I am a homer Bay Area fan, and not just a fan of uniform color or logos when it comes to sports.
if they move out of the bay area they can go f**k themselves. im loyal to the San Francisco 49ers, not some Los Angeles b*****d half breed 49ers.

With all the LA talk, you'd think this was the offseason.

Good point Funky, no matter how much Jed wants to spend, he still has to get his Mommy and Daddy's approval.

I think you guys would be missing out. You probably don't realize this, but the NFL experience can be so much funner to enjoy when you have no serious loyalty to a team.

You obviously must like the sport and the league and that won't stop.

I have friends in LA who LOVE the NFL after they stopped being Raider fans or Rams fans. They just say, until LA has a team again they root for nobody...except fantasy interests, little side bets they have going.....in general they just are amused when we fight amongst each other over our teams.

Obviously, the ideal scenario is the Niners actually being a functional organization again, but if that is not going to happen(and I don't think it is)....then the NFL will probably be much funner to us Niner fans if they are gone.

IDK, thats what I am thinking tho

Nah, the NFL would be an after thought for me if I didn't have a local team to root for. The only thing binding me to watching TV on Sunday afternoon is the 49ers. When they are not on, I am not watching TV. When they are on, I watch them & other games too. The Raiders are alocal alternative...but not really because they are blacked out too much, and not my kind of crowd to see them live.

The NFL is not going to allow the 49ers to just up and leave the San Francisco Bay Area.

Al Davis did that. Look what that got him? He's back in Oakland kids. Because he finally got tired of fighting one lawsuit after another.

The 49ers have a history here. They have a legacy that other teams did not have. Hardly any tears were shed when the Oilers were allowed to move from Houston. And the Browns-Ravens-Colts switch was a fiasco that wasn't well-managed and I don't think the NFL would allow such a manuever again.

The only way the Yorks get the green light to move is if we can't get a new stadium and nobody wants to buy the team. Well -- guess what? The Santa Clara stadium effort is the real deal -- and there are multiple ownership groups who would line up to buy this team from the Yorks and keep it in San Francisco. The team is in the heart of Silicon Valley my friends. Do you think -- for even one moment -- that the wealth to buy this team doesn't exist?

You would be sadly mistaken.

That's why this team isn't going anywhere -- despite what the Kawakami's of the world suggest.

They have been dead to me. I'm waiting for them to come back to life. If miracles can happen, we can make a run since we're still mathematically alive.
Tim Kawakami's article was Not about the 49ers moving out of the Bay Area. It was about how the Yorks are pattering their Franchise after Jerry Jones Dallas Cowboys.

Some posters were running off at the mouth saying, "Move the 49ers to LA"...ain't gonna happen. And as one poster said, the NFL is Not going to let the 49ers move out of the Bay Area, there is just too much History tied with the team, & the City. But don't put all your hope in the Silicon Valley Stadium happening...as of now there is No money to fund it. That is why it has been put on delay.

In fact Di Fi has a bill to not let them leave SF with the name. So that is where Larry Ellison steps in, he buys the team name, let's Steve Young, Brent Jones and Ronnie Lot run the team. If you are into the New World fantasy.
