True that! I've haven't been to game yet and heard the stick rockin. I'll be at this game and I want it to be loud.

The MNF game this year was rockin. But I will also be at this game and I plan to lose my voice like I do every game.

In your opinion will this game have that same feel? A must win in our house style of excitement. I want this win!

Rams run defense is 7th in the league in yards per game. However, they are 20th in average per run.

If our coaches intend to stick with their antiquated offensive philosophy, I hope that this new 13 formation allows them to run the ball like they want to. As long as they execute, it could be dominant enough to get yards even though it's obvious we will run. It isn't nearly as predictable a formation as any I variation we've used with Norris. There is potential for some creative runs there, especially with the speed and blocking ability of our three TEs. Of course, the added bonus is they can still run pass plays down the field.

If the past has been any indication, this game will come down to two key factors.

1) Gore running the football effectively in spite of predictability.

2) Stopping the short passing game from Bradford.

I certainly have more confidence in the former. As far as number two... well, let's just say it's aptly named.

I agree with this one, but in the same sentence I hope that they don't stop our short passing game, because whether Alex or Troy, I noticed they both use the short passing game extensively. s**t, in a way it's like looking in the mirror of offenses. Except they have a winning record:)

The Rams are 4-4.

I hope they try to stop our "short passing game" because we have been passing short mainly due to Alex Smith checking down and not being able to find an open receiver downfield. Alex Smith has been playing like a rookie which is why we had the short passing game.

If you want stats:

Troy Smith: 10.3 yards per completion

Alex Smith: 6.4 yard per completion average with his best game being 8.6.

I'm moving this conversation to the Alex Smith thread..

Oh thanks cool, but that still doesnt change the fact of the short passing game. And believe me the A. Smith era is over, so glad we got that out the way. But if it's 10.3, the short catch, then convert for a few yards.

So thats good his is better, we need it. But that still doesnt change when i said the short passing game. I mean thats not to take anything away from all that T. Smith brings so lets get that straight, but in the last game i saw the same passes that Alex may throw to hard as some say, he made the same ones.

So not a knock on either, but just pointing out that they use the short passing game, just as much as Bradford IMHO.

I don't know, I saw Troy throw quite a few passes past 10 yards. But you must also take into consideration that we were purposefully playing a safe game plan being that our 3rd stringer only had 3 days to prepare. I think we will see his armstrength and legs used more this game.

Yes but, as many don't want to believe, we have far better talent at the Receiving/TE positions. Our short passing game, if executed by the QB, can be very deadly.

Yeah, this is very true. There is one big difference, though. We have a higher yards per attempt on both run and pass plays. In total yards per play, Rams are 30th and we are 23rd. They have over 50 more plays total than we do, but we have over 10 more yards per game. Yet they still have a slightly higher points per game 17.5 (29th) to 17.1 (30th). Cool story, huh?

Where they are really beating us statistically is on defense. They win in every statistical category (I admit I could have missed one or five ). The most telling, IMO? They make QBs look like chumps and we make QBs look like champs. Rams opposing QBs have a combined rating of 76.3 (9th) and our opposing QBs have a rating of 90.2 (25th). So, while our points scored per game are almost identical, points allowed is a different story. Rams 17.7 (6th) 49ers 22.2 (19th).

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Turnovers. If we are in the plus then we win. Of course, this rules out those 1 turnovers at the worst times: Nate, Carr, Alex,...

Thanks for the stats brotha. Yeah that is pretty telling. Overall it just says what i've been trying to say all year. That regardless of who our QB is, our D just isnt what they used to be. I mean you have to point the blame to the offense not scoring enough, but even when they scored enough to win, they still couldnt get it done.

As being a staple of our entire team, we just arent getting it done on the defensive side. I mean Goldson doesnt even have one int i think, and like u said we make other Qb's look like HOF'ers. And some dont like to talk about it, but we been saying this even going to last year. Even when Hill was our QB.

So then i say we had Alex, Shaun, Carr, now T. Smith. And they still get killed. I mean we won last weeks game, but damn, they tore our defense up. So i think we really need to look at our D, very carfully.

This is an interesting point you make. Let's break down Troy's performance, shall we? Obviously this is just for fun because the sample size is so incredibly small.

Passes thrown from behind the line to 10 yards = 13

Passes thrown over 10 yards = 6

A better ratio than we saw with Alex at .46 to .38.

What I find really interesting is what happened on those six passes that Troy made over ten yards. Only one of them was incomplete... the longest pass he threw.

More fun with statistics! Let's look at his QB rating in the previously assessed areas.

Up to 10: 72

Over 10: Perfect at 158.3

Pretty impressive over ten yards, I'd say.

Now, there has been a lot of debate about the long pass to Delanie Walker. Let's assume two other possible outcomes and their effect on that rating.

Incomplete: Still very impressive at 149.3

Intercepted: Still very impressive at 109.7

No matter how you slice it, he comes out looking aces throwing over ten yards. Now, if he could just do that well on the shorter throws....

Ok, super small sample size, totally useless assessment long term... still fun stats for me! Hope you enjoyed them!

Until next time, kiddies!
