because Smith isn't comfortable throwing to receivers downfield and he is prone to INT's when doing so.

They don't like to spread them. They like it tight.

Some of us have been screaming for this since last season. It doesn't even have to be a true "spread" offense. It's painfully obvious that this offense CAN NOT win games with Sing's "vision" of run, run, and run some more. It's painfully obvious what this offense does best, but they only do it after the game is out of reach. They stick with this false hope that the "bell cow", O-line, and defense will win games.

I can understand the desire to run the ball, but Sing/Johnson have got to see what this offense does best. Otherwise, this team will continue to lose.

This. This is the MAIN ISSUE with this team right now. It's not the talent, it's the coaching.

The Niners had not one, but two guys with 100+ receiving yds. This offense is capable of doing this and more every week. Once teams start to respect the passing game, things will open up for Singletary's precious bell cow.

Makes no sense at all to me why we are not in the spread 90% of the game.

Alex has looked good EVERYTIME we've been in the spread for more then a quarter or two. It's only happened a few times in his entire career., but it's not a random occurrence at this point. Why can't we just try it for an entire game? What's the worst thing that can happen? Another loss? OH NO!!!

We have been trying to force a round peg into a square hole for his whole career. Why do we do it?

The funny part is, we'd probably win a lot more through the spread, even with the mistakes, because we'd be putting up points. s**t, the guy was scoring 3 TD's a half in 2 or 3 games last season just because of the spread. Can we please do it for one complete game? Rather watch us lose throwing then running up the middle on 1st down 8 times in a row.

Sooner or later, that will be the mentality. As it is now, what does Sing really have to lose? What does Alex have to lose?

Let er rip

No we just do it for 1/2 when the game is too far out of reach and we can't win anymore...

The team doesn't want to shift to a full spread for a QB who might not even be here next year.

This reason above, as well as many others. First off, coaches, just like players, specialize in specific areas such as offensive styles. Our O.C. and Sing are not specialists in the spread offense.

2nd: we don't have the personel for this. We have Crabtree (who is not a starting quality receiver), and Davis (who is a tight end, not a WR). Everyone else is mediocre (I am giving them alot of credit). Gore is our best offensive player, and he is a legitiment starting RB.

3rd: Our PassBlock is not good. A good passblock is obviously more important in spread offenses.

Would I like to see more shotgun? Yes, I would. But what I think is most important is to start running more play-action and using westbrook w/gore in wildcat occasionally.

when alex came in for shaun hill last year in houston, they immediately put him in the spread and we flourished...the coaching staff (singletary) is too old school to do that every game.

its also funny how Crabtree and Smith both ran the shotgun spread offense in college...

Because Singletary is our head coach? where have you been?
