I have to say I'm with English on this. My guess is Sing told Lewis he wouldnt be starting and now Lewis is looking for a trade or something along those lines. Coffee had another purpose and Balmer was just crap.

I think Sing took the high road on this one. He probably told Lewis he was out as a starter and Lewis went all cry baby on him.So Sing went to the media and said there were "personal reasons" Lewis wasn't practicing. He knew all along that Lewis was b***hing cause he lost his starting job. Sing didn't say that to the media. Class act.

I've never seen so many guys quit or walk away from a team leaving multi million dollar salaries on the table. Something is really wrong with this organization.

Matt Maiocco of Comcast SportsNet Bay Area reported Friday afternoon that 49ers safety Michael Lewis won't be making the trip to Atlanta for Sunday's Niners-Falcons clash. Lewis sat out practice Friday for "personal reasons," according to the team.


Matthew Barrows of the Sacramento Bee has taken Maiocco's report a step further. According to Barrows, Lewis has asked the 49ers to release him.


Lewis agreed to a pay cut in August, reducing his base salary from $4.1 million to $1.7 million, with another $400,000 in bonuses. If the bonuses were related to game-day activity, Lewis isn't going to get the vast majority of them.


He'll probably get his wish eventually, though. The 0-3 49ers are in a state of turmoil and appear poised to turn Lewis' strong safety position over to some combination of youngsters Reggie Smith and Taylor Mays.


If Lewis is cut, St. Louis is a possible landing spot. Rams head coach Steve Spagnuolo was the Eagles' defensive backs coach when Lewis broke into the league with Philadelphia in 2002.

We seriously have one of the most sketchy organizations in the NFL. Rats, leaks, and dangerous info surfacing (unprofessionally) that could destroy the team's entire atmosphere/relationship with his head coach.

First players stop coming to work (cause their coach either lies to them, or management is playing cloak & dagger with the head coach behind closed doors while he makes a fool of himself in public; from inside leaks making cash on the side).

It's like Sing is trying to convince us he's not on strings (to save his rep towards the team), when the ownership doesn't have the balls to come out and say so. But according to newer reports today... we don't exactly know WHO THE f**k IS RUNNING THIS SHOW ANYMORE.

Players quit when the team tells you something and then turns around does the exact opposite.

were done we need to clean house the coaching staff now

this coaching staff is ridiculous first balmer then unnamed ex player source and now lewis all say the same thing

this is no concidense

our coaching is the worst in the league i feel sorry for all the players on our team that have to put up with them

YOU BET...you can be sure Lewis has veteran friends on the team and morale cannot be good at this point...MORE IMPLOSION.

You guys are giving Lewis more credit than he deserves.

He does not have the power to get the rest of the team to his side.

Nate was benched and HE DIDN'T COMPLAIN last season. This is a guy that made a helluva lot more money than Lewis did. You didn't catch so much as a violin player tuning up from his camp.

If Lewis wants to be traded fine I am all for it. If he wants to be released then he can blow it out his ass, cause he's not going to another team in our Division unless they pay for him. Our team should go with 52 players until we can go after him for the money that he's getting for not holding up his end of the contract.

Personally I think that too many people are being suckered in by this fool. Do we have management problems? Possibly.

But I think that it's safer to say that these problems do not fit within Lewis's bursted bubble.

i think sing is scaring his own players to death, and they are starting to fear not doing well. HE uses fear as a coaching tool due to his lack of coaching ability.

Yes, BUT people jumping ship impacts team morale and chemistry in a very negative way. Coffee and Lewis were popular in the locker room as I recall. I don't know about Balmer.
