How is he a p***y? I mean dude, that's f**king retarded thing to say. He played with a grade 3 separation in his shoulder. You would have a hard time moving your arm if that happened to you. Just because he's not a great/good QB yet or possibly ever doesn't mean he's a p***y. At this point you're just calling him a name because you dislike him. MMA fighters are tough as s**t but would you want Kimbo Slice as our QB? Heck no.

can he play FB?

Probably better than Norris

seems like he is too much for rogers sometimes as well....rogers OVERthrew 5 yards vs phi....he does that quite a bit, but then again, he did great throwing 180 yards and 2 INT's

If it was that easy teams would be scoring 60 yard TDs on every possession. Rodgers missed way more of those passes than he makes. The big difference is the Packers call those plays more than once a game.

Exactly. It seems like most haters, not just of Smith, aren't very knowledgeable football fans.

If Rodgers played like he did on Sunday all of the time you guys might to be onto something. But you're not. You accuse other people of being unknowledgable and then you base your facts off one game against Philly's spectular defense that always pressures the QB causing sub par QB play.

Here's the reality. Rodgers had a poor game last week, but games like that for him are few and far between. Last season he had 1 game with a rating under 80. Uno. He averaged a 100 rating for the season.

Trying to compare Alex to him is just laughable.

YOU are missing the point of the whole post....IF, and again that's IF Alex had a wr that can BAIL him out get open all day, he would be a much better qb....maybe like Rogers. Last time i checked, Rogers has the same oc for a while, same wr's (2 pro bowl wr's to be exact) and a great oc and good ol. Alex does not have any of these in his favor. Rogers is more accurate on short to intermediate throws, but that's the difference. Alex on GB would be a good qb, as Rogers on the niners would be an average qb.

The point of this post was to say Alex STILL does not have a Good/Great wr on his team. And for all of you saying Davis is that guy.......well they have Finley and he is very good too....and Alex threw 13 td's to vernon last year (should of been 14 but Vernon dropped that one in the end zone vs the seahawks)...so YOU ALL CAN SEE what alex CAN do if a guy can get open. Now Imagine if he has a jennings.

I think Matt Maiocco stated it best...

Quote:
I don't know that Alex Smith is good enough right now to "take" (as in CARRY) the 49ers to the playoffs. I think he's good enough to be a quarterback on a playoff team, though. I'd be surprised if his play does not improve dramatically. Like I wrote earlier, I'm still saying 9-7 and division champs.

And if you're someone who nags about Smith's high throws when the receivers don't catch them, imagine if he had a tall WR, with great leaping ability and excellent hands to throw to, as most top-notch QBs do. Behind every great QB is a good O-line and a group of talented receivers. Think no further than today's Colts or yesteryears 49ers. Smith has one established target in Davis, but it would be nice to get one of the guys on the outside to produce at #85's payload.

It's too late . . . this will be his last year here if he can't produce.

No one said it was only about the Philly game. Rodgers, and all of the top NFL QBs make non-perfect throws all the time. Their receivers help them out. Our receivers not one don't help out our QBs on throws that aren't perfect, they don't help them on the perfect passes either.

Where did I say any of that? I have Aaron Rodgers as my QB in both of my money leagues for fantasy. I like Rodgers a lot. This thread is simply about getting Smith an elite WR.

I've been thinking that for a long time & wondering why most people don't see every other QB & other position players play like crap sometimes. People seem to think that other players are perfect all the time. I think it all comes down to confidence. When Alex is high on confidence, he's pretty darn good. When the whole team plays like crap & ur defense hands out freebies to opponents, there's not much confidence left. If Alex started out playing like crap, I'd blame him. But, he started so good & then the whole team went downhill. Can't blame a single person for something like that. IMO, the game was lost when Nate & Tarrell gave up those 2 free plays.

Our receiving core isn't nearly as bad as you guys make it to be. Crabtree had a bad game. That was his worse performance. That's only the 2nd time he's failed to get 30 yards in a game. Let's not jump off a bridge here.

I'm looking around the league and I'm seeing Sam Bradford in his rookie debut get a 100 yard production out of Mark Clayton, I'm seeing Kyle Orton get 100 yards out of Brandon Lloyd. Then I'm hearing whining and crying about how bad our weapons are when we have the best tight end in the game, one of the best receiving backs in the league and Michael Crabtree.

It's funny that Antonio Bryant was a 1,000 yard receiver in Cleveland before he came to us, and then he was a 1,200 yard receiver after he got back from suspension with Tampa but when he was here he could only get 700 yards.

What does that tell you?
