Great post. There aren't many third rounders on the team... interesting.

There are 5 by my count. That's more than we have 2nd, 4th, or 5th rounders. Only more 1st and 6th round picks. Also 5 7th rounders.

A shorthand breakdown:
Niner Draftees = 60% (32/53)
Niner UDFA's = 8% (4/53)
Free Agents = 32% (17/53)
The percentage of FA on a good team's roster often seems to be under-valued by this board, where the inclination is to fall in love with a "virgin" draftee.
The Niners will have a difficult time replacing J. Smith, Clements, Franklin, Lewis, and Spikes, when the time comes to do so. And for the latter 4, that could well be "next season", be that 2011 or 2012 (if a lockout in 2011). Singletary and Baalke will need to be sharp in future FA signings, bveginning with the in-house decisions on Franklin and Goldson.
