John Clayton's take on Alex Smith

Smith plays a big part of this team sucking. On any given pass play, u can bet money he's either gonna chuck it out of bounds or throw is short to the back.

This.

It starts with Smith. He's #1 problem. Singletary/Raye are a close 2nd.

Did you watch the defense the whole day? KC's offense looked like the Saint's offense moving up and down the field in whole chunks at a time. We had no answer for the screen even when they ran it twice in a row.

Could care less what the defense did. Alex Smith sucks. Til we fix the QB position, all of our other problems will be magnified.

Then there's no point in discussing the team with you... I just thought we are talking about the Niners as a fan. At this point at 0-3 you must look at the team as a whole and not just one player. If it was that easy just to replace Smith and we would go undefeated the next 5 games, I would all be for it but that's not a realistic fix.

It's almost 100% completely on our OC/HC/QB dynamic.

If we had competent QB play, we'd be 2-1.
Sing Raye and Smith need to go. It's time to move on, the sooner the better.

What's sad is that even on the short 5 yard passes Smith can't hit people in stride.

This has been my main concern since training camp. He will have his good games but he will also have bad games making him exactly who we thought he was: inconsistent.
The guy dose'nt know how to throw a ball past 15 yards to a WR. He is garbage and should never throw another NFL pass. Nate Davis is better.

I'm sure this was in the game plan from the coach. Not to risk down field passes when KC is giving up the short passes. And best to check down to Gore when you don't see much downfield. Safe, take what they give you. So Smith do right by the coach and check down often. Not surprising from this coaching staff.

he's telling you what you don't want to hear, that's the real issue. Smith has great work ethic. He has great attitude. He has great height, weight, and athleticism. He's very smart and very coachable. He's popular in the locker room and is not a liability off the field or with the media. He also can have flashes of good play.

THE PROBLEM IS THAT HE IS A SLOW LEARNER, HE IS NON-INSTINCTUAL, HE IS PREDICTABLE (DUMP OFF OR ROLL RIGHT), AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, HE IS NOT ACCURATE.
