The 49ers/Giants rivalry in those days was epic. They seemed to play every year and every game was a knife fight.

I believe they were both undefeated at that point. The game was being billed as Superbowl XXIV 1/2, that's how dominant those teams were that year.

Probably the best Monday night game I have ever seen! Ronnie was playing on two bum knees too and I believe he knocked down a potential TD pass near the end. Wow.

You see the shots that Montana took after he got rid of the ball? Nowadays those plays would be penalized as roughing the passer. Football still is very violent, but that era definitely required more will and personal courage to play the QB position.
