2010 Record redo; 13-3?

Shop Find 49ers gear online
10-6 and 11-5 are the most realistic records we can expect. We have the potential to pull off a 12-4 or 13-3 record, but lets face it, this team lays down for an opponent they should beat at least twice a season. And we haven't shown the ability to contain spread offenses like the saints or packers. If games like that turn into a scoring race, you gotta think we won't come out winners, we could but the odds are against us.

Assuming we win one or two we shouldn't and lose two we should of won, 10-6 seems most probable.
10-6, NFC West Division Champs

Sun 9/12 @Seahawks - LOSS
Mon 9/20 Saints - LOSS
Sun 9/26 @Chiefs - WIN
Sun 10/03 @Falcons - LOSS
Sun 10/10 Eagles - WIN
Sun 10/17 Raiders - WIN
Sun 10/24 @Panthers - WIN
Sun 10/31 Broncos - WIN

5-3 going into the BYE
Sun 11/14 Rams - WIN
Sun 11/21 Buccaneers - WIN
Mon 11/29 @Cardinals - LOSS
Sun 12/5 @Packers - LOSS
Sun 12/12 Seahawks - WIN
Thur 12/16 @Chargers - LOSS
Sun 12/26 @Rams - WIN
Sun 1/2 Cardinals - WIN

So I think we'll start off a little slow (0-2), but will play well in those losses. Then, we'll hit a stretch before the bye where we rack up the wins. We'll close strong by winning 3 out of our last 4 (including the Seaturds) and take the division.

we are goin to lose some games were are supposed to win, a 10 win season its what I look for, on paper we can be 12-4 but we are not a power house team yet, we need experience and to build a championship mentality.

Sun 9/12 @Seahawks W Possible L
Mon 9/20 Saints L
Sun 9/26 @Chiefs W
Sun 10/03 @Falcons L
Sun 10/10 Eagles W Possible L
Sun 10/17 Raiders W
Sun 10/24 @Panthers W
Sun 10/31 Broncos W Possible L
BYE
Sun 11/14 Rams W
Sun 11/21 Buccaneers W
Sun 11/29 @Cardinals W Possible L
Sun 12/5 @Packers L
Sun 12/12 Seahawks W
Thur 12/16 @Chargers L
Sun 12/26 @Rams W
Sun 1/2 Cardinals W

I say we lose one game in the division possible the opener or in MNF to the Cardinals, and then we probably lose a close game a game we schould had won to the Broncos or Eagles a la seattle last season...

at 10-6 we staill win the diviscion and know we can be better.

NFC wild card: vs Minnesota. we send Favre to retirement literally in candlestick.

NFC divisional game: vs Dallas. we beat the cowboys in the new stadium to send them to another decade of obscurity and get a feel of cowboy stadium.

NFC Championship: vs Saints. we lose to them in candlestick but we played them close, now we know we can beat them and we do.

Superbowl: vs Steelers. They think they are the best franchise and expect to win 7 all week long people talk about the steelers as the best franchises in nfl, no body gives us a chance and in the end niners get their 6 and are in the way to become a dynasty again..

Mon 9/20 Saints Close Loss - This will be a fun game, but Brees will be the difference.
Sun 9/26 @Chiefs Win - The Chiefs suck
Sun 10/03 @Falcons Loss - We'll give them a better game than 2009, but still come up short
Sun 10/10 Eagles Win - I think the Eagles will decline this year
Sun 10/17 Raiders Win - Battle of the Bay goes to SF
Sun 10/24 @Panthers Loss - Should win this game, but the Panther's escape with the win.
Sun 10/31 Broncos Win - I think the Bronco's and McDaniel will implode this season.
BYE (5-3 at the Bye)
Sun 11/14 Rams Win - We smoke the re-building Rams.
Sun 11/21 Buccaneers Win - This should be a win.
Mon 11/29 @Cardinals Win - I think by this time the Cards will be fading and we'll be facing Skelton.
Sun 12/5 @Packers Loss - Lambeau in December . . . Brrrrrrrr - Loss
Sun 12/12 Seahawks Win - Home win clinches the division.
Thur 12/16 @Chargers Loss - Short turn-around, we lose
Sun 12/26 @Rams Win - 10AM start, but it's the Rams.
Sun 1/2 Cardinals Win - Starters are resting after the 1st half, but we still pull it out.

My rose-colored take is 11-5.

Dude we will CRUSH the panthers!! I live out here and i'm going to that game! I will not be letdown agaiN!! LOL f**k em they have no WR's!!!

I think Carolina is a team we should beat, but we always seem lay an egg in at least one 10AM East Coast game . . . and after this game the team jets off directly to London . . . so who know's where their heads will be?

I think we lose to the SAINTS(world champs), FALCONS(they will be a 10 win team), PANTHERS(tight one down to the end), BRONCOS(we don't play well outside the u.s., remember mexico city against the cards) PACKERS(2010 nfc champs I believe) and CARDS(nothing to prove, division will be won at this point) on the last game of the season. At that point we have won the division after the 15th game(16th week), we rest our starters after the first quarter and prepare for the playoffs.

10-6.

keep in mind that russel okung is out for the first game against us and they dont even have a backup LT cause hes injured too at first i thought it would be a hard game but now i see us winning it

also i dont see us losing to the cardinals ML has a weak arm and should be contained easily and Wells sont be able to run against us and them losing dansby rolle i just dont see them winning against us

I hope you're right and I'm wrong. I just know that as talented as our team is (especially compared to previous seasons), we haven't turned the corner just yet to the point where we will beat every team we're supposed to beat (especially on the road). Usually, NFL teams take incremental steps in their progress, so I'm not sure we're going to go from 8-8 to 12-4 or better. We'll likely find ways to lose some of these "winnable" games, but we'll step up and find ways to win enough to take the division.

IMO, going from 8-8 to 10-6 is a nice bump and a more reasonable expectation for a young team with a question mark at the most important position (QB).

Good points. But I also think that this team is talented enough to beat a team or two that we are not supposed to beat.

But that would mean either the Saints, Packers or the Chargers. Can't see us beating the Saints, definitely don't see us beating the Pack in Green Bay (just never happens)...so that leaves San Diego. Now, I can see us beating the Chargers, but I also know that Turner usually has those guys playing pretty well towards the end of the season, and that's when we'll be playing them.

Don't get me wrong, the homer-side of me wants us to go 16-0, or at least wants to believe that we can beat the Saints, Packers and Chargers (along with the other wins I listed above)! But the practical side of me is just trying to be a little realistic here...

ur totally right about the saints packers and maybe the chargers but honestly i dont see seattle beating is with their backup G or therir LG guarding their blind side and justin smith and the cardinals are just not a solid team anymore

I'm with you on those sentiments. IIRC, I picked the team to go 10-6 this year, too. I also doubt that we'll beat the Pack in GB. The Saints at home? We could do that. Chargers in SD? I think that they will underwhelm this year in general due to their off season losses of talent, while I think that the Niners will improve as the season progresses. I'm calling that a W.

I totally hear you, but I've been watching pro football for over 50 years, and I'm telling you brother, strange things ALWAYS happen. Teams (that on paper, especially early in the year) you should crush, often find ways to beat you. I don't think Carroll will do well in Seattle overall, but he'll have that team pumped up for the first game, and I have feeling it's going to be a tough day for us in Seattle.

We found ways to beat AZ when we weren't the better team, so I can see them also stepping up and playing us tougher than expected. Overall, I really believe we'll take the division, but I don't think we're going to go undefeated in the West...that's tougher to do than one might think.

If we had a QB that could carry this team and consistenly make the big play when needed, we'd be a SB contender. I mean that seriously. We have one of the best defenses in the league (definitely good enough to make a deep playoff run), one of the top RBs in the league, one of the best TEs in the league and group of young and talented WRs. We're deep across the board and have a young o-line made up of 1st/2nd rounders that will likely only get better as the season goes on.

The only thing we're missing is a top-tier QB. I pray Alex can be that, but he hasn't shown it yet, so he's the missing piece to this puzzle right now. Unfortunately, it's the key piece to winning a SB...so we'll see how this all plays out.

Agreed on Seattle. Playing at Quest is always a bee-otch, but per some of the Seahawk beat writers there's a good chance Mansfield Wrotto or Chester Pitts will be their opening day LT.
We lost six games by a single score or less last season. With improved defense and offense, I see us winning those games this year. And with Shaun Hill in Detroit, I don't see any players left on the team that are so awful they're capable of single handedly losing a game for us (Atlanta).
