I didn't follow his career at Tennessee very closely but he must have shown something for the 49ers to give him the money they did to get him here. Now that he is gone, it looks like a lot of teams are very interested in him. Sounds to me like the 49ers have missed something. Then again, when your first and main priority is running the ball up the gut, a WR with speed is not a high priority. Then there is the Ginn signing...

Dude was decent when healthy, the problem was he never remained healthy in Tenn either.

I really hope he goes to the seabiscuits and takes up roster space and doesn't do anything.

Don't rule out the others just yet partner. Ziggy will get his chance and so will Ginn.
Williams may surprise. If none of them dominate but collectively contribute say a 100 catches between the three of them, thats still good cause it means the ball is being spread around and the team can't really concentrate on one particular WR.
Then add Gore Westy VD and Crabs.... you get my drift.

Not just because of the recent article naming him a potential "household name," but I believe Morgan is going to have a huge year for us, and specifically for the reasons that article stated. Teams will likely be focusing their defensive attention on Crabs/Davis/Gore, so that will give our #2 WR a lot of one-on-one opportunities. Given Morgan's speed, leaping ability and deeper knowledge of Raye's playbook, I can really see him making an impact. Not necessarily in terms of number of catches/TDs, but regarding key grabs in critical moments.

i think Morgan is a perfect #2, actually. He can make plays, though he's unlikely to take over games, he's a decent blocker and seems willing to do a lot of that "dirty" work behind the scenes to help the team. But this year is a big year for him, he's gotta be consistent, I guess, and take advantage of the chances he will get due to the increase in our offensive weapons.

The 9ers owed him 2+ million per year in salary.
As a FA these other teams will likely only pay him the vet minimum, so Jones is a good deal for the vet min. Plus the 9ers have too many WR's, so someone had to go, and Jones was expensive and injury prone

Brandon Jones, Bryant Johnson, Darrell Jackson, Ashley Lelie. We have really blown it as far as receiver pick ups in the last couple of years.

I just hope that Ziggy is not being pumped up by the media and then just becomes another Jacobs or Gilmore.

Personally I think this team needs all the Receivers they can take with them into the regular season. I think there is a good chance we see 6 make it past final cut day.

But I don't want anyone to make it at the expense of another player only to be crap on Game day. I know that Lelie is not very well liked here but Sullivan is a Tool. The guy kept scrubs on the field and we basically signed Lelie to languish and basically ran him out of the NFL. That's not good business. It's one thing if they get injured and get passed up on the Depth Chart because of it. It's another if they have value and you keep them on the sidelines cause some scrub practiced better. Especially when you have an idea of what the player on the bench can do.

If Sullivan does this yet again, I'll be forming a lynch mob and heading down to 4949 to run that Fool out of town. I'm fed up with not having a solid Receivers Corps. Seriously though, I find it suspect that in 5 years we didn't have a solid tandem. No way in hell that's poor draft quality. 3 years maybe. 5 years? It's the WR Coach.

I hope all that hype turns into fact. I just have not seen Morgan running the crisp routes and being in position to make plays. However, I am not at all impressed with Raye's pass routes yet either, so it may be design and much as talent.
