Brooks signed a 2 year extension last year so I say we finally line him up at the OLB position to rush the passer.. He could be THAT elephant rusher we been looking for.. I mean, he's showed what a pass rusher he is when given a chance.. so be it, if he's not the athlete Lawson is, but he sure is the best pass rusher we have..

I'd hate to see him be a part time player again, and for us to see him sign a contract with Seattle (seems like they been getting players from us lately) and wreck havoc to the rest of the NFC West.

As for Bowman, he may be an instinctive player due to the fact that he came from the LB University (Penn St), but showed all of last year how raw he reall still is.. I say he tales over Spikes full time after this year...

We should Ahmad Brooks playing Parys Haralson's spot. we've seen what he's been able to do on the blind side(Against the Cardinals MNF '09). P-Town Can't set the Edge on Running Play's, cant cover anything when dropped in coverage and hasn't done anything with his "special pass rushing techniques" against LT's

At least Manny is able to set the Edge and drop into Coverage, He is only one of a handful of LB's that can solo tackle Steven Jackson.

I agree to let NaVarro sit and let Takeo Play it out

we'll see how the scheme will be this year

He's not that fast. Give him another Yr at MLB he'll fit in good there.

I remember reading a Matt Barrows column stating "that he was neck to neck w/ Willis, dont know why you get the impression hes not fast enough?

This link above explains how he explodes through gaps.

The link above explains that he is NFL ready "He has a shot at being a top 20 pick because of his NFL ready speed and quickness.

And last but not least the above link is the Matt Barrows blog explaining NaVorro Bowman's comparable speed to Patrick Willis

true, but enough to say Bowman isn't that fast?
He's got a lot of potential to develop into a all-around backer in Fangio's defense. Pretty good instints hitting the holes in the middle that will benefit our run defense for awhile. And he is a good open field tackler and doesn't seem to get 'run over' by guards. He does however, need to watch those ball fakes.

He's pretty fast dude. Not saying he should move to outside, but he's pretty fast.
He's a kid. We as 49er fans have such high expectations for him because of what Willis was able to do, he's not Willis, like most rookie LB's he needs time to grow up and become more skilled. He has potential he just needs time, one more year behind spikes would be nice.

I think the question is more of how fast he can read the Offense and react then his Speed
If the 9ers do not get Quinn or Miller then moving Bowman to the edge might be worth a shot. Or, keeping him inside with McKillop and Spikes with Willis on the outside. If I recall Stanford's D last year the LBs moved constantly and there really was no sure pass rusher. I prefer this where ever they first line up. Drive the offense crazy trying to figure out who is coming, from where!

Also, I read that Willis was coming back from injury when Bowman almost beat him in the race...but he did beat everyone else! That's fast enough for me.
TKO's got another year, maybe two in him. Bowman should be able to fill in after that and be 100% ready.

I actually like him as an OLB better than a TED too.

Why cut anyone? Ahmad Brooks is our most natural pass-rusher at the moment. Besides... linebacker is a spot where we can afford to rotate guys in and out.

We can keep Bowman and Spikes until Spikes decides to retire in a few years.

I think Spikes played at a much higher level last year than anticipated. Bowman waits alittle longer for starting opportunity which he may or may not take advantage of.

What about Spikes and Willis inside with Lawson and Bowman outside. That would be an unbelievably fast LB group. Don't know if Bowman has the instincts to be a pass rusher but if he does!
