Navarro Bowman

I remember, not so long ago when the majority of the zone was drooling over him ( Dallas' draft board and a wind sprint).

Scott McKillop had identical college numbers a successful rookie year but everybody loved Bowman. Hope he figures it out soon or he will be backing up Scott next year when he is healthy

Damn I forgot all about Mckillop

As much as I like Lawson, I have to admit he is hot garbage when it comes to sacking the QB (however he does get pressure). I would like to see him resigned and try to upgrade the other side of the ball, yet I know he probably wants too much money.

So here is the second scenerio.

Can we just move Bowman to OLB and get our elite passrusher in the draft? That way, going forward we would have the following

Rookie, Spikes, Willis, Bowman


Anyone have an opinion as to why Bowman could or couldn't do it?

I was really against drafting Lawson.. I really believed that he's just a workout warrior.. a very athletic guy who plays the LB position.. but he isnt great at what he does..

so my FIRST idea would be to once and for all make Ahmad Brooks a starting OLB (elephant) due to the fact that he has one year left in his contract again. We need to find out what he really can do as a rushing LB full time before we decide on signing him.

TWO: I'd love for us to draft NC's troubled OLB in Bruce Carter.. the guy is mean and is a hitting machine..

It seems like we as fans are always saying, let's just give him one more year. Brooks doesn't do any one thing that good. He can't even catch a lobb ball interception in a big game. Lawson is far more valuable, he is GREAT against the run and more than solid in coverage.

Lawson has a spot for his ability in run stopping, the guy is a sure tackler unlike his counterpart Parys and although he doesn't have the sacks he does pressure the qb often... Haralson seems to mop up the sacks. I'd rather move Brooks to haralsons position. I don't think his run stop ability is any better but you should see more sacks. I wouldn't be opposed to seeing more LaBoy either.

So no one has an opinion on Bowman as an OLB? Didn't he play 4-3 OLB in college? If you read this message board during TC he was the next Pwilly.

Bowman has some great potential, just give him time to learn under a competent coach. With Willis at his side, he could become great.

Think Ray Lewis in Bmore, he brings everyone else on the defense up a notch. Willis is our Lewis.

If you were able to see some games of his or some clips you could see his skill on the outside especially with his speed. He can go sideline to sideline in a snap, much like Willis. Excellent tackler and did well sifting through the fatties for pressures, containment and disruption.

THIS is why I am so jazzed about Bowman's potential in Fangio's 3-4. Most of what I remember about Bowman's scouting report as a 49er was that he wouldn't be the classic "TED", but rather a second "MIKE", interchangeable. I can really see that with Fangio, he did it with the Saints. Now add another MIKE experienced as both 3-4 (Virginia) and 4-3 (Cincy) who now happens to be our true SAM in the 3-4 in Ahmad Brooks.

Man, just those three could be interchangeable with stunts coming from outside in and vice versa, Swarm galore. Catch e mi drift?

Now add the true missing piece at WILL like a Von Miller and DAMN!!! Bowman would be used primarily inside when the time comes, but he could blitz out and Brooks in while Willis and Miller go into coverage and the safety blitzes the middle.

Yea, that's what I am talkin' bout! Bowman will be another piece to Fangio's system.

PS Watch watch Capers does to the interior of the Pittsburgh OL with Pouncey out. It will be just what I described above, lots of movement and disguise. Stunts and scraping the "A" gap. Raji and friends will allow the LBs to reek havoc. Fun to watch and a glimpse to the mind of Fangio.

I want to see him as an OLB instead of a TED. I don't think he's great at taking on blockers for Willis, but he has the speed and athleticism to make some plays for himself.

We do have some mean LBs, it's good competition, let the races begin, lol

brooks had his chances...i'd rather draft a pass-rusher now so that we are sure about brooks' effort to be a good rusher AND to have one guy behind him if he wants too much money.

Not a bad idea but I don't really know how suited he is to be an OLB. With McKillip coming back we have plenty of depth in the middle. I would prefer to draft one of the top OLBs in the first round and see if they can rush. Bowman's experience last year may make him a better option. On the other hand...
