But seriously, some of you guys are reading this board wrong.

Teams usually don't predict which players will go to teams like a typical mock draft. They simply order players by round (each column represents individual rounds). The teams to the left are used to show the round order, which varies by round and is constantly changing.

Maybe he spent all the $ on that stadium.

Sometimes, cards move faster than excel sheets and they wouldn't have as much of a chance of accidentally disappearing. Who knows what can happen to a computer during that valuable time.

My thing is, why is it sooo awesome that Bowman is ranked in the 1st but then ranking Davis 3rd means Dallas doesn't know crap?

Aircraft carriers still rely on the "ouji board" below deck to track every movement of every piece of machinery on the flight deck. It's a mock up of the flight deck with trinkets (nuts, monopoly pieces etc.) representing all the machinery that moves above on the flight deck. After 85 years or so of carrier aviation, it is still the most effective, safest, simplest, foolproof way to keep track of the large amounts of movement that occurs in a short period of time during flight ops.

A 5 billion dollar machine...and still the best way to run the flight deck movement safely, accurately and in real time is with about 200.00 bucks worth of everyday hardware s**t and a dozen sailors moving those spray painted pieces around on a table.

The board/magnets Jerry is using above is hard to beat, accurate, real time, and damn near foolproof.

You only trade OUT of the 1st round below the top 10 because you don't value remaining picks at where you are. If anything because of salary investment, teams COVET mid-1st round picks. COVET - unless there's a good reason not to be. Apparently the Dolphins had one.... I personally the 49ers gave them one.

That makes sense, but none of us know for sure they weren't planning to trade the pick regardless. Just because they did it after we selected Davis doesn't mean they were intending on drafting him. Teams usually don't execute a trade until they are on the board and if they wanted him that badly, who's to say they wouldn't have trade UP to get him when word broke of the 11th pick being on the block?

All this picture proves, to me, is Dallas was NOT targeting Davis. I don't believe Miami was, either, due to what I just said about them not trading UP, knowing a team like ours was targeting a tackle and had the ammo to make the deal. That, and the fact they have Jake Long and probably wouldn't want to pay another high-priced, high-pick tackle.

I could care less where Dallas had these guys ranked. The only interesting thing is the proof of them not planning to take Davis in the 1st, as many here would have liked to continue believing.
lol....awesome find nonetheless

sigh. OK one more time. The complaint about this trade is a criticism of management, ie it was a waste of a pick.

Did management have good grounds for believing that Dallas or Green Bay might trade up? I would say yes.

Was this pick crucially important to us? It would appear that they believe Davis to be a very significantly better prospect than Bulaga and streets ahead of the rest.

Is this a position of need? Yes, would be the short answer.

So, faced with the possibility of losing their top pick, they threw in a 4th to secure him. Wasn't it Baas where we ended up getting pipped and having to take a very poor second best?

I aaplaud

Forget it English. You can't argue with the logic if we got someone they didn't want. If they wanted Bulaga and Bulaga went past our picks and picked by someone else as it happened then people here will whine about the wasted pick.

I completely agree though if we would have had to take someone that we didn't want that would have been alot worse than losing the 4th round pick. I know Baalke said that they "knew" that 11 and 12 weren't going to take a Tackle, but when we picked Davis, Miami JUMPED right out of 12. It wouldn't have surprised me to see parachute silks pop out their doors. That's how quick it happened.

So to me, it was ballsy of Baalke to make that move. Instead of someone swooping in and taking him we did the swooping and taking. Was it worth a 4th? If we took him just in time it was more than worth it. If he doesn't pan out then in hindsight it wasn't worth it. But it's too freakin early to make that distinction imho.

I'm excited for him

He is like the mystery man. I can't find any film on the guy.

I'm still more excited for our 3rd round talent, Davis.

Perhaps Anthony's so called caracter concerns had him drop on their board.. Still to early to know for sure, but he has said all the right things to this point. I am hoping that those concers were overblown.

Miami did not want Davis. Miami traded down with San Diego to recoup the 2nd rounder they lost in the trade for Brandon Marshall. Bill Parcells values defensive lineman. You look at his draft history and it's clear as day that his intention was to trade down from the start and then upgrade the d line. Not to mention the fact that Miami is already invested heavily at the tackle position with Carey and Long.

We knew Denver was looking to trade down, and we knew Miami was looking to trade down. We knew there was teams willing to make the jump. Singletary did not want to take the risk of losing out on his man. It's really as simple as that.

Because Lee was ranks as a first round prospect as well. Higher than Bowman. It is still consistent.

On top of which, they just drafted "character concerns" in round 1. If they are rated anywhere close, you have to take the safer pick.

The military is far from the pinnacle of efficiency and the example for how to do things right.

I agree that technology is outdated and a large flatscreen with a computer geek running the board would be far better. Easy to move names up and down the board and legible.

no. i checked it is. the 3rd column at the top of the pic. and next to it says davis sf 1-11.

eh who cares. maybe they valued him less for some reason. or didn't like somehing aout his personality.

I thought Davis was always seen as a boom or bust pick. He's 20 and the knock on him was that he lacks maturity (duh) and work ethic. He's raw but has all the physical attributes to be a very good (but likely not All Pro) tackle if he keeps his weight down and builds strength. Essentially he's a "soft" 340 that needs to turn into a "strong" 330.

haha i earned this

We have no idea who would have traded up for Anthony Davis, but it was obvious that Miami and Denver were willing to trade down, because they did. I would guess that Green Bay was the main concern, because they were looking OT no matter what, but some other wildcards are Arizona, Houston, and Atlanta.

I have no idea why this move is being questioned. Most players chosen in the 4th round or later don't even make NFL squads. We saw him as a franchise tackle, had our sights set, and pulled the trigger. It was a good move. The OL should be set for years to come.

good post. Yes, so we gave up a 4th round pick. We needed a RT bad, we got what we needed and then getting Iup with the next pick just made it even better. Line should be fixed now for years and we have good strong back ups as well who can all play anywhere on the O-Line. This gives us good flex in case someone gets hurt. LT And RT are very hard to come by in the NFL. Get them while you can and if thats a huge need you almost have to make a trade to make sure you get one.
