matt barrows is saying the niners arent sold on mckillop as spikes back up, i know this aint earth shattering news, but we just picked him in the 5th round last year and already hes being tagged as nothing more than a sp teamer? gotta improve that mid round drafting

lol, mckillop fell to the 5th for a reason. He's got to step up his game.

5th round rookie, didn't expect much. He should be better this year. If anything I think he would be Willis' backup. McKillop was a tackling machine.

For what it's worth he's become a proven/instinctual special teams tackler, couldn't ask for more out of a 5th round LB!

they aren't sold, doesn't mean he can't sell himself over the next year or two. Even if he just develops into an Ulbrich-styled utility guy and not a starter I think that's okay fora 5th round pick.

Funny thing is when they drafted him they couldn't stop drooling over him. Another reason why Im glad McClueless is McGone.

McKillop isn't bad, the article just says he doesn't play Singletary's smashmouth style (tries to slip past blockers instead of crashing into them). He played well for us last year when he was given opportunities for a 5th round rookie.

Right. But if he can bring us value like Briggs or Scott did from the 5th then we drafted/developed well.

This is the kind of info that makes the two Matts so valuable. Measureables dont always tell us how a guy is actuallu going to do. But reading between the lines, it sounds like McKillop did not take the instruction he was being given very well. Is he irredeemable? Probably not. But I'm glad they're not simply waiting on him and hoping, but trying to go out and actively find someone better!

I don't think he's had enough time to prove himself just yet!

Yes, it is very possible that McKillop will develop into a valuable ILB. But the lesson here is that when you draft players who take longer to be ready, then, like here, you start talking about drafting that position again. Every time you have to do that, it prevents you from drafting another position for which you may also have a need. This may be a clue in the debate over whether the organization was unhappy with McC's performance.

nothing bugs me more with this team than when we draft a mid round position then the next year we do it again at the same position cus we are unsure of the player we took the previous year, i just see it as a huge flaw in our drafting, guys like gore goldson and haralson have worked, hopefully more come in the future
