Having tons of INT's or Sacks are a more "sexy" stat just because it's a turnover or a sack basically kills a drive. Sharper has like 3 INT's returned for TD's or something, if Willis had more TD's and stuff he'd def be a runner up, but since he's a tackling machine it's not recognized as much for the DPOY.
But Willis isn't a lineman or a defensive back. Linebacker is not exactly a position that racks up sacks and INTs, especially a inside linebacker. If he was a OLB, then yeah he should probably have more sacks.
Well that's the thing tackles alone aren't considered that much of a great stat unless he led the league by like 50 tackles or something. All of us Niner fans know how good he is because we watch him, but for people that don't watch him all they look at stats. He doesn't get many TD's or sacks because he is a MLB that's why it's hard for him to get the DPOY, especially when you have Woodson, Revis who are all having great years, unless of course we were a winning team then he would get even more recognition and possibly be considered.

Were a 6-7 team, play on the west coast and Willis isn't a flashy guy in terms of being a big talker or a self promotion type of guy

If we were a winning team, even a 7-6 record right now, I think he'd be getting a lot more coverage. It's all about the wins in this league.

yeah I agree. It's the wins that matter. Thats almost why no one is talking about Davis for the Pro-Bowl. Not saying that he shouldnt go, but for all the td catches, he leads the league in drops as well, not too mention the record we have. So thats why i agree that it's the record, that puts the player in the spotlight.
And it's funny because Willis makes all the tackles, but at times even the writers say, he shouldnt have that many tackles, and he only does because we have a depleted defense at times.

so wait a minute here noob your a ram/niner fan???????
anywho back to your argument witch really is NOT!!! he wasnt stripped of his duties because he was playing poorly
Singletary just felt that having to call plays was holding him back from him bringing it on, on every play & if anything it showed his play got even better then what it was before he had the duty of calling plays
so stop talking nonsense ROOKIE!!!!

Because while he has been terrific, Woodson has been lights out.
Willis doesn't put up huge stat numbers because he's in coverage a lot.
Still he has something like 4 sacks, 3 FF, 2 INT (1 TD) and 130+ tackles I believe. But Charles Woodson has.. 8 INT (2 TDs), 4 FF, 2 sacks, 61 tackles. -- This is why he'll likely win.

Patrick Willis is the best defensive player in the NFL period. It would be tough to argue that he isn't the best player in the NFL. He dominates his position and the 49ers would be in a lot of trouble without him.

In my order as of right now it is:
1. Darren Sharper
2. Jarred Aller (both these guys could go either way
3. Charles Woodson (close 3rd)
4. Patrick Willis (Distant 4th)
