In exactly the same amount of attempts and about the same amount of playing time.
Alex Smith 1035yds Hill 808
Smith 9 TD Hill 5TD
Smith 13 times sacked Hill 18 times

So there is no reason to go back to Shaun Hill which so many people are ok with.
Looking forward if Alex continues to progress from what he is doing now, I think there are bigger problems that need to be addressed on the team. This year might not be the year the 49ers go to the playoffs but you have to build on something, there is no reason to keep on rebuilding and starting from stratch

Except Hill is 3-2

Alex is 1-4

Niether is the answer

And there's the rub. Alex Smith clearly shows he can get it done with the right play calling. Going conservative and having him only pass 7 times isn't a winning formula.

Even you Smith haters have to realize that such an offense takes Crabs, VD, and Morgan out of the game.

Smith haters will never realize that. They will just ride Hill's win record that he should thank the defense for.

Alex Smith is the best 20 point deficit QB ever.

Aaron Rodgers is a real qb, it was very painfully obvious today.

Yes, a guy that throws 3 TDs in the second half sucks.

just imagine what would happen if the defense didn't let the other team score 30 points or the OC actually called plays that utilized the strengths of the QB and the entire offense.

No the guy who throws for 6 yards in the first half does.

Yes, Smith was horrible in the first half with those 7 pass plays......and the 3 sacks the oline gave up. Jesus. Did you watch the game?

Do you honestly think Rodgers would be better if their situations were reversed?

I love this focus on the QB when clearly the 9ers problems don't center on the QB play. The oline sucks and you say nothing. The defense sucks and you say nothing. The offensive play calling in the first half sucks and you say nothing.

Nope. It's Alex Smith who the haters focus on.

Let's see some other stats...

Ints: Smith 7 to Hill 2
Record: Smith 1-3 to Hill 3-3, because the W is all that really matters...

Let's also look at the simple fact that Smith has just as many attempts in 4.5 games, as Hill had in 5.5 games, showing an obvious change of plays from running to passing.

Oh, and one more thing, how have our 3rd down conversion % changed? They haven't, we might even be worse...

We ran 10 pass plays, and 7 run plays. That's a very normal distribution of plays.

How can you compare Alex Smith to Rodgers??... PACKERS ARE THE SAME TEAM THAT WERE (13-3) TWO YEARS AGO. The 49ers don't have one person that plays on there team that knows what 13-3 looks like.

Can't deny the record, but Shaun Hill only had one impressive win. He beat a beat up bad Seahawks team and the Rams...
I hope Sing and Raye see whats going on and open up the playbook to fit alex smith....it's starting to look that the more they hand the team to smith the more he gets better....they need to free him more no more 7 pass attempts in an entire half only to have him go gunslinger in the second half games....

FREE ALEX SMITH play to his style GD!!!!!!! guy can play and score

like it or not....this team isn't a running team...Smith has to play from behind most of the time and the guy can score....let him lose. VD and crabtree morgan and frank from the backfield is a potent passing offense..WAKE UP raye
