Why would smith target crabtree? there is obviously not a strong bond between them and he probably doesn't trust him. Given how Crabtree played against the seahawks and now after last night 3 out of the 4 INT's Alex has this year involve throwing at crabtree. Not to mention Seattle and the saints both show defenses that bait passes to crabtree.

So I ask, why would you throw the ball his direction?
Smith never goes off course. He sticks to the main reads, if Crabtree is wide open in the endzone but isn't one of the first options in that play's design, chances are Smith will never even notice him.

the views that we get on TV never allow an assessment of this. As good as Smith played last night, I have always sensed that he generally sucks at finding and making completions to open WRs. He's better with dump offs to TEs and esp RBs.

The back to back passes to Crabtree and Davis downfield in the third quarter (both on the money by the way) beg to differ.

Which is why he isn't NFL material.

Right? Guys like Manning, Brees and Brady seem to know where everybody is on the field at all times, not just their primary reads. And that's the difference (besides accuracy of course and maybe pocket presence and quick release).

SMH. The difference is they win the game because their center doesn't snap the ball over their heads leading to 9 total points for the other team because of a safety and a short field!
Right guys like Manning, Brady, Brees have been in the same system for years. They should know where everyone should be.

Of course all this has a TON to do with having enough time BEFORE the snap to see what the defense is doing. If there is no time, then the QB follows the assigned progression. If, OTOH, he has time to read the defense, he will then be able to find where the open man will be and hit him. Last night he had time to do that...and he did it multiple times. In the past, eh, not so much.

2) We can now sleep knowing that Alex Smith is our QB and is NOT a bust.

3) We didnt give up any big plays in the secondary. (Really shocked)

Anyway I cant believe we lost but at least we fought till the end

GO NINERS!!!!

1. we didn't throw the ball at all to start the game.

2. Alex is inconsistent however i think he will be good if the coaches would let him loose like we did in that final drive.

3. the last pass to colston only cost us the game. we've only generated 1 turnover. and we can't stop the f'in screen pass

yeah but we shut down the best QB in the leauge

If Reggie smith didN t drop that pick 6 towards the end of the game we would have won.

I bring this up because watching that game, it sure as hell looks like Crabtree was open enough to make a lot more catches. I think Smith might be under orders to look elsewhere intentionally. That's the kind of thing Singletary would do.

As silly as this sounds, i wouldn't be at all surprised, seeing how Sing has his favorites.

On what actual facts do you make that judgement?

The fact that Singletary seems to go out of his way NOT to discuss Crabtree...ever? I think that's justification enough that he does not care much for the guy.
