Alex Smith, 6th Best QB in the NFL. That's right, according to footballoutsiders.com. At Footballoutsiders.com, they do advanced statistical analysis. Their best stat is called DVOA, or Defense-adjusted Value Over Average. This number represents value, per play, over an average quarterback in the same game situations. In order to be ranked by FO, you need to have 59 passes -- Alex has 57. So he's unranked. But if the threshold to being ranked was 2 passes lower, Alex Smith would have the 6th best rating in the NFL. And that's not the only stat where he excels. Smith is also very high when you compare effective yards to real yards. Effective yards are yards you should be expected to get depending on the situation (opponent, game situation). Smith is getting about 24% more yards than expected. That puts him at #6 in the NFL, tied w/ Drew Brees. Don't believe me? Look at the stats (link below). the guy has played 6 quarters. Not to much to judge him on. Lets see where he stands at the end of the season.

Hey buddy, not cause smith sucks n we're not in the playoffs that means that we're haters. Its the truth, he's a bust, even the MNF commentators mentioned he was a short term qb (meaning he sucks).

What about last year when Shaun Hill stepped into an offense the OC actually catered it to his strengths. I have to say, Hill performed well considered Raye didn't do crap to help him out as he did with Smith.

Raye did something to help Smith?? I wasn't aware that Raye attempted to teach the OLine to block. Ohhh wait you must mean that they put the games in Smith's hands. I wouldn't exactly calling that helping Smith. I would call that the Raye extreme. Either the playcalling is run run run punt or pass pass pass punt. No inbetween, no middle ground just extrememes on play calling with no creativity what so ever.
