San Francisco: The 49ers released return specialist Allen Rossum and submitted a waiver claim for Seahawks defensive tackle Michael Bennett. The NFL awarded Bennett to the Bucs, who had waiver priority based on an inferior record. The 49ers activated receiver Michael Crabtree to make sure the team had 53 players on its roster. Failing to keep 53 players on the roster would have forced the team to release Dominique Zeigler from its practice squad.

At first I thought he meant the RB, but I don't know anything about this Bennett.
Interesting though.

I'm not familiar with the waiver wire rules, but if he was claimed by the 49ers, would that mean he would have to be on the 53 man roster?

I wonder why we are interested in a defensive tackle.

He would be a 3-4 DE and I think that either Ray McDonald's injury is more serious than the team is letting on or maybe Demetric Evans would of got cut if the team got Bennett...

Evans so far has been a major dissapointment. One of the few dissapointments on the defense.

That makes sense. I completely forgot McDonald had an injury yesterday.

I think it's a combination of both maybe McDonald could miss the Houston game and picking up Bennett would cover that then cut Evans after Ray got healthy. Evans was never supposed to be anything big for us nothing but a backup.

I think it would have been a practice squad move. We just released drew radovich from our practice squad yesterday or today.....so we have an opening on our practice squad now.

That's what I'm thinking.
Bucs get first dibs cause of their record...

No, it would have been to the active roster. The Seahawks were trying to sneak him onto their practice squad.

Evans has been a dissapointment and I think the team expected more out of him, though he still has 11 games to show something (unless he gets cut)
