Given how things have gone for us the last few years or so bandwagon fans aren't a problem we've had. If our current success keeps snow balling I think we'll have plenty of them though. So far our defense is getting it done and the bandwagon fans tend to go for more offensive units but it will still happen. I thought I would give long suffering, loyal fans a chance to sound off on how they feel about new additions to our fan base.

The more the merrier IMO. Having bandwagon fans means your team is consistently in the playoffs and a contender for a ring, and s**t... that's all I want from this team

It's funny you say that i'm from CT not too many niner fans, but i saw a guy at the gas station with a niner hat on and the first thought was here we go, fans coming out of the woodwork.
I said to the guy nice hat, he said thanks now we just gotta get Crabtree Hill and Raye all on the same page and we will be a contender. We need an offense to go with our defense.
I was surprised he actually knew something about the team. So there are fans out there just never sported the gear or said they were fans. I guess that's what happens when you start winning.

People like winners. I like it better when the 49ers win than not. Bandwagon fans will be the least of my worries if we make a strong run this year. Actually I'll have no worries. Plus if it weren't for bandwagon fans where there wouldn't be a nice social fan hierarchy in which those of us that stuck it out through all the debacles to sit comfortably on top of.

Funny, I don't mind bandwagon fans as long as they support my favorite teams. The one's I hate are the ones supporting teams I don't like. In basketball I am a Detroit Piston fan, and seeing all the Laker bandwagon fans crawl out from under rocks at play-off time turn my stomach. I have a customer I have known for many years, during the 80's he was a Laker fan, then in the 90's he was a Bull's fan, now he is back to being a Laker fan. Dude annoys me, but if he was a Detroit fan, he probably would not bother me. Even though I hate the Lakers, I know who most of their players are over the last few decades. Reason, I watch Laker games hoping they will lose and when the Laker's take control of the games I turn them off. If I see someone in public sporting Laker gear at play-off time, I will ask them how long they have been a fan, if they say "20 years" , I will ask them what they thought of "Larry Drew" I recall he got 5-10 minutes a game, you would have to be a real fan to know the guy. When they look perplexed I will just respond with "Are you sure you didn't mean to say you were a fan for 20 days?"

Very positive everybody. Way to show your class. I practically ducked when I posted this expecting worse. You're right about it being a good problem to have.
I don't want to get evil about it but I have to say I am with jta854.

I am all for the Bandwagoners. Bring em on, welcome them aboard. The broader the fan base the better for all of us. I doubt there are many here who didn't come to fandom of this team when we were losing in the last 5 years. Most here, who have grown up outside of the SF Bay Area, became fans during the Steve Young years others with Garcia. How many came aboard during Donahue and Erickson? How many first became fans during Nolan-Smith. We, for the most part, are all bandwagon fans. Some just longer than others.

for what its worth...i'm from chicago and was a bear fan by birth. after the 9ers kept whooping the bears in the 80s i decided that i liked the 9ers style. and became a fan. i guess you could say i was a bandwagon fan. and the 9ers just stuck with me since then and i'm a 9ers fan for life. definitely bigger 9ers fan then bears even still livin in chicago.
so from my tale i can say that i dont mind them as i hope some turn into life long fans as i have.
but the real bandwagoners need to be dealt with via some kind of 9ers trivia that only us crazed idiots know to seperate the men and women from the kids. or otherwise....maybe a lil Mt. Pain.

If you became a fan when you were a kid then I don't think you are considered a bandwagon fan, if you became a fan just because of the teams success and you were old enough to realize that then you are a bandwagon fan (nothing wrong with that) The type of bandwagon fans I hate are the type that as soon as we start sucking (for example after 02) you stop supporting the team.

Not me! I am an exception to the rule! I came aboard during the early 70's. Everyone here was rooting for the Rams, so I became a fan of their division rival in the north half of the state. I wanted people to argue and disagree with. 35 years later and I still like to argue and disagree! The 49ers weren't too bad then, but not as good as the Rams.
