My list would be (in no specific order)

Patrick Willis
Troy Polamalu
Shawne Merriman
Albert Haynesworth

Honorable Mentions.. since they're getting a little older.
Ray Lewis
Julius Peppers

Nnamdi Asomugha is probably the best player in the league relative to his position. The man is far and away the best cornerback in the league.

Dude foreal....Nnamdi is not on the list!?...that's a shame, the silent assassin is THE best CB in the NFL playing right now, hands down.
2. Antwan Odom, DE, Cincinnati: He added 30 pounds in the offseason, and with a 280-pound frame, he's a more powerful force. The proof is in his seven sacks in two games (five vs. Green Bay).

imagine this dude on our line
Willis is the man. I think you have to move past the stats at some point and look at what a player means to their unit. But hey.
Wow....everyone in the media seems to be on the Jets nuts. I guess....

I think I agree with you on that one, my own list would be Willis; Ed Reed; Ware; Asomugha; and Mario Williams
That ranking is just based upon how well they've played in the two games so far.

haha Shawn Merriman doesn't even have a sack. He's not the same guy since he stopped juicing.
Willis is a monster!!!

Two experts (Steve Young and Jon Gruden, I think) said Darrelle Revis is the best corner in the NFL!! Played well last year and in the first 2 games this year....shut down Andre Johnson and randy moss. Wow! Yes, I know.....part of the reason why was because of the Jets great blitzes.

I believe Willis is gonna be a STRONG candidate for defensive player of the year.

I remember many folks here saying that they wanted the 49ers to after Peterson , awhile back.

Adam Carriker was also discussed on the zone quiet a bit, A.J Hawk was another, but not too many supported bringing in another RB.

Exactly, it's based on statistics in two games. Not which is the best player.

Osi Umenyiora should be on that list. Probably the best play making d-lineman in the league

I still think that belongs to Dwight freeney.
