Baalke's draft was encouraging, but let's not jump the gun yet. His choices appear to be good, but shouldn't we wait? We got exctied by how they performed during the preseason games. But our 4-0 preseason record does not compare well to our 0-3 regular season record; they are two different testing grounds. The blemishes and defects just haven't appeared yet on some of them. Baalke may be outstanding, but cool your jets for awhile.

Talent-wise, we're squared away. But with that said, we could be better. If I was the team's GM, we would have Brandon Marshall and Michael Vick on this squad. Those both would have been unpopular moves at the time, but they'd be paying dividends today. It doesn't take "the guy". It just takes a little bit of commonsense. All we need now is the coach. And again, that doesn't take the guy. It just takes commonsense. There are quality candidates out there...

I might be in the minority when I say that hiring a "football" guy might be overrated.
We'll see how this plays out, but it's not like the Football Czars who have been hired have done a hugely spectacular job:
1. Parcells - while in a tough division, the only time they went to the playoffs was when Brady went down. Nonetheless, they were blown out and done the only time that they did go there.
2. Holmgren - he retained Mangini. That should tell you all you need to know. Can't see the Browns going anywhere this year either.

Holmgren retained Mangini because he and the Browns won 4 straight games to end the 2009 season! It is also believed that Holmgren retained Mangini because he couldn't hire the guy he really wanted... Jon Gruden. It's only a matter of time before Eric Mangini is fired.
