Actually Franklin will beat Soap out because there's only one NT that's worse than Franklin on the team - a converted DE playing NT.

Actually Soap was a NT that was converted to DE and now back to NT.
Soap is faster than Franklin, stronger than Franklin, and doesn't have 50 lbs. hanging over his belt. There's a reason that Jeff Fisher is interested in Sopoaga. It's because he's still a kid and at 27, defensive tackles are just beginning to learn the position. Soap's desire and work ethic will leave Franklin in the dust.

Don't question him he has ESP. On that note its a crap shoot, there both CRAP so SHOOT I don't care who wins.

You think the niners won't keep Zigler?

I really wonder about M.Rob. He seems overpaid and under whats the word....good. He needs a position change to save him IMO. Unless sing is so desperate for special teamers He is a waste of a player and definately is not a RB. I'd rather he competes for 3rd string QB, second string FB, or even try his hand at receiver. A real running back could be just as big an asset on special teams. On that note Clayton will at least compete for that spot, and who knows it's possible.

On defense...

No matter who wins the starting NT position in TC, both Sopo and Franklin will get plenty of action, One of the keys to a good DL is having good depth and rotating in fresh legs, Playing 1 gap style should benefit both of these guys

As far as McDonald goes (and ive been a fan of his) but he played poorly in '08.
He gets pushed out of the play by one OL or a TE all the time. I hope he steps up this year, I think we see him as a backup to Smith. and a Nickle DL

LDE- Evans, Balmer
NT- Franklin, Sopo, Rookie
RDE- Smitty, McDonald

At LB, we are fine in the middle with Spikes and Willis, and Ulbrich as a backup.
Im curious to see if Brooks is in the plans as a backup ILB, if not, we may draft an ILB for depth (too bad we lost Grant)

OLB, Manny at Sam, Haralson at Will, Im pretty sure we draft a day one OLB
who will eventually start at Will, and Haralson gets plenty of PT backing up both OLB spots.
J.Moore and/or Brooks as the #4

Sam- Manny, Moore
Ted- Spikes, Brooks
Mike- Willis, Ulbrich
Will- Haralson, Rookie (Orakpo, Brown, Sintim, Maybin, English, Mathews. Barwin)

DB's- Nate at LCB, Walt at RCB, with Brown first off the bench.
I like Spencer, but with that huge contract, he may be gone
thats why i think were looking at CB's in FA, It could also mean that R.Smith gets moved to compete with Goldson at FS (most scouts had R.Smith as an NFL FS)

M.Lewis is solid at SS,
Goldson and Smith could be a good camp competition for FS
with Williams making the team as the 4th, backing up M.Lewis.
Roman with his very low contract could also be kept around for depth/insurance
but i think he's gone, and maybe we bring back Strick who can play FS or CB.
If we do bring Strick back, I think Hudson is also gone

CB- Nate, Walt, Brown, Free agent, Hudson or (Strickland I hope)
S- Lewis, Goldson, Smith, Williams

Snyder won't be the starting RT. Getting Andre Smith will greatly improve the offense--and defense, since it won't have to be on the field so long. The team will also improve, IMO, with
1. Goldson over Roman at FS.
2. Platoon NTs of Franklin, Soap and/or rookie (Sammie Lee Hill, etc.)
3. Sintim/Johnson/Ayers, etc. at OLB for Green/TBC
4. Moran Norris at blocking FB
5. A rookie FB that can block, run, catch (e.g. Fiammetta) and/or a RB like R. Jennnings to be on the field at the same time as Gore and/or a change of pace runner like Javon Ringer that can be a breakaway threat.
6. A rookie speed receiver.
7. Lawson, another year from his injury
8. The Singletary factor plus no Nolan
Good posts, guys....

Lots of good comments amongst the occasional sarcasm... Would like to see a bit more respect for all opinions but I digress...

Personally, I think the Niners ARE in rebuilding mode and that this year is largely going to be an evaluative year to see what players are really going to be part of the future....or not. Guys like M Rob, McDonald, Soap, V Davis, M Lawson, D Baas, and D Goldson are going to really have to step up their games or find themselves out of a job....seriously. I think you may see some very surprising cuts at the end of TC.

My biggest criticism of Scotty is that I think he is overrating the current talent on this team....especially on the OL, DL. and at QB....the most important positions.
